There is no much animals here. Will able to see few elephants and few deers .cages are not clean
Calm and quite place. Animals like deer are kept in a huge natural area thats isolated from visitors. This park also has a wide variety of rare tree and plant species. Theres a butterfly garden too. Park is fairly maintained and has cafeteria and washroom inside it. There are few elephants too which we can watch in a close distance.
Nature lovers can spend a full day over there till morning, there is elephant ,deer, parks and small childrens park available..canteen facility and washroom also there now per head ticket is 50 for adults 20 for children above 13 year old...with Family i wl rate this place as good but with couple this place i will rate excellent from people who are going from muvattupuzha the way from vallam junction is good road other road from keezhillam to kuruppumpady is not good
Place is full of greenery it will cool your mind. Not much to see but spending some time there is worth. The ticket counter staff, a lady, is very impolite and harsh.

This is essentially a shelter home for estranged animals . COVID VACCINATION CERTIFICATE IS A MUST FOR ENTRY. Park has 6 elephants ( 2 male and 4 female), Spotted deers and Sambhar deers. Some medical plants and trees and butterfly garden (namesakeis also mentioned.A 2 km walk through shades of trees gives a calm feel. Recommended to walk in morning or evening as it can be hot and humid at noon.. The famed elephant bath in river is not being done now as post flood the bathing area in river is damaged.A small cafeteria is present inside which serves juice , soft drinks, icecream and lunch( weekends .A Kids play area with some sea-saw and play things are present.Expect Nothing more than all these and you will be satisfied with the calm serene walk. The park if expanded has lot of conservation as well as educative potential. But Sadly, our idea of conservation themes on chained animals and stops at a point when selfishness, politics and business meets..NB: Met a very good mahout working there for around 20 yrs with lots of history and stories on his lips.. Made my day with some interesting facts.
must show covid19 vaccination certificate on ticket counter. In this forest We can see elephants, different types of deers. A cafeteria is inside the centre, that provides coffee, ice-cream and soft drinks and weekend they provide meals.
Abhayaranyam is a good choice to spend some relaxing and refreshing time with friends and family, and is a good choice to enjoy a relaxing picnic, especially in the summer. The park begins with the walk along the butterfly garden which leads to the mini zoo. There are large enclosures of spotted deer and sambar deer, and the paths underneath the trees and bamboo offers a comfortable walk inside the mini zoo. Then further inside is the elephant park, where people can watch elephants upclose from a safe distance. Apart from these, there is a walkway through red sandal garden, which leads to a kids park and cafeteria on the way towards the exit. The place has ample parking facilities and there is a shop outside the entrance, where you can get refreshments. On the drawbacks, the treehouse and resting points within the park are recently not in proper condition. Though most of the park is quite well maintained, some areas require more attention. So, it is a good place to spend a couple of hours, preferably in the morning or evening.
Peaceful and calm place.. deers & elephant caged.. elephants are trained here, brutally as usual.. Notting can be done..Good place to pass a family day out... Well maintained..and refreshment Parlours available.. good parking area... Covid checks done.. friendly staff..

Calm and quiet place. A must visit place. Spend around an hour here. have a walk around. Its like walking on the walkway which is inside the jungle itself. There are deers in many numbers along with a lot of Mlavu. Main attraction are the elephants. Though its very less in number, you ll love seeing them trying to share there love for the visitors. a beautiful & peaceful place to be.. interestingly there were very less visitors and it was almost deserted kind of area.. they have childrens park and cafeteria but more sort of less maintained places.. elephants were active, staffs were decent and altogether a nice place to spend "two hours of being close to nature"
A beautiful place which is spread across a large area. There you can see Elephant Training Centre, Deer Park, Butterfly garden, lot of herbal plants, other kind of plants etc.Elephants are brought from many places and are trained from there.Periyar River is flowing on the side of this place. Elephants are being bathed from here. You need to walk through all these places to see it. Some chairs made of bamboos where people can take rest. Also Erumadams are also built here. Huts with natural materials are also made in these areas.Good place to go.Kids will enjoy the time there. There is a small kids park near to the snack bar. Also you can buy natural spices, honey etc from here.
Enter with a parking space under tallest wild trees inside like a feeling in the woods. Dark and cool like a forest. Take a walk to the entrance of the park and you will be charged for a nominal entrance fee .Again it’s slight elevated climb so people with knee and walking issue should be cautious of the terrain. But a slight push to your gut and you can witness few wild elephants and plenty of spotted deers and some same species on the uphill.A Green place. On the edge of the river Periyar. Elephants are tied and trained sort of setup. Kids friendly and parents relax mode on.Beautiful plants all around with their names mentioned to those enthusiasts of green and nature.Small park in the Center of the garden where kids can come alive and lively to show some stunts and energy burst.A small cafeteria where the staple food is ice cream . Everyone who enters does have one. Don’t mistake my words as the ice cream just ordinary but the setup of our trip culminates on the ice cream here. Infact most of the flocks. Additionally they serve snacks as well , like Banana fry hot and crispy , parippuvada, seasonal fresh juice and of course tea and coffee. Today’s special dish was Smashed Tapioca and green chutney. Ask the specials of the day. That’s all about the menu. Nothing else but it’s worth the visit and sit. There is an Eco shop just at entering premises where you have choices of all natural and organic stuffs and products of the locals . Some soaps , wild honey etc etc. Check it out.Road leading re good. Google does an awesome job here. As always . Pin it and précisely u are there.Enjoy. Kids. Relax. Refresh.Don’t expect a hi fi setup for God sake. It’s simple, beautiful walk through the elephants home of discipline.Recommended for parents with curious kids 😀
The place is situated in the outskirts of kodanad area of Ernakulam district. This place is famous for its elephants, butterfly, and deers. There is an entry pass counter from where visitors needed to purchase the entry ticket , for adults Rs 20/-, for children Rs 10 . The deer enclosure is in pathetic condition. There is an elephant bathing ghat. Another attraction is red sandalwood plantation. Overall its a place for a one-time visit.
Here we can spend around 3 Hrs. Nice view of forest and nature. Elephant (ആന), Deer (മാൻ ), Sambar Deer (മ്ലാവ് are the main attractions of here. Here is giving training to elephants. Also we can see rare species of plants and trees here. Please like and share if you liked the post
This is mini zoo for rehabilitation of deers and elephants. Training of elephants is also done here to some extend. There is access to the periyar river which is used as bathing area for the elephants. Tourists are not allowed into the water because of strong undercurrents. They also have a red sandal wood cultivation. The entry time is between 8am to 5pm. Do carry necessary hats or umbrellas as it was pretty hot when we went. It is a 2.5 acre site so do be prepared to walk.
Abhayaranyam as name suggests is the house for orphaned animals.Only deers and a few elephants are found. It is a well maintained forest with a walkway constructed to give away a feel for walk through forest. It is a fresh experience and takes about 1-2 hours to cover the area.
It is very close to now defunct Kodanad Elephant training center. Here you can find a few elephants, spotted dears and Sambars. A lot of medicinal plants and fruit plants are there.
A quite place for one day family outing. Well maintained forest area. Lots of places to sit and relax. Elephants and deer are the only animals. adequate parking and food is available. When I visited I could see a wild elephant in the "Elephant Training cage" (ചട്ടം പഠിപ്പിക്കല്)
If you look in tourist guides such as Lonely Planet (South India & Kerala page 303they talk about the Elephant Training Camp at Kodanadu. That camp closed in March of 2017 and a new premises was opened, slightly closer to Cochin. The new premises are called The Abhayaranyam Zoo - A Shelter for Orphaned Wildlife. To call this place a zoo is to mis-represent it. Yes, there are animals in enclosures, but not in the classic sense. We travelled by car from Cochin Airport - it took about 35 minutes and cost 1400 Rupees return. At the retreat, entry for foreigners is 100 Rupees.Once in, you walk along well signposted, dirt paths past several varieties of deer. The deer are close to you - not a spot in the distance and while they keep your distance, you are certainly very close. We arrived at the Zoo at 9:30 in the morning because we were given wrong information by the hotel travel guide. The signs at the Zoo gate say the Zoo opens at 9am, but if you turn up at 8am they will let you in and you can go down to the river and get in the water with the elephants while they frolic around and have a morning play.In the river, you are required to keep your distance, because the elephants could easily step on you, or whack you with their trunk while they are playing. After their playtime in the river they are taken up for a wash and this is where we caught up with them. Each elephant was lying on a concrete slab being scrubbed by two workers under the watchful eye of the Mahoot (the elephants boss). As soon as the Mahoot saw us, he called around the fence and had us join in scrubbing the elephant. Awesome ! Where else in the western world would you ever get that opportunity ?We were also shown the kraal where newly captured elephants are kept - they are wild and scared and dangerous, so their enclosure is big and very strong.Once the elephants, calm down, they are then kept tethered by a chain on one front leg and one rear leg. Finally, when they are no longer a threat, they are tethered by one chain on a rear leg.You may see a stick leaning against the elephant, resting behind the elephants right ear. This is a means of control. The elephant learns that while the stick is resting on his right ear, he/she must do as the Mahoot says. Take away the stick from his right ear, and the elephant is his own boss.We saw a young elephant rocking from side to side - we had heard from other sources that this was a sign of distress. In this case however, the youngster was actually dancing - enjoying herself. We also saw an old man, his body bent and doddery from years of hard labour feeding an elephant. The elephant could easily have knocked the old man flying with one swing of his mighty trunk but that was never going to happen. He was literally picking up big chunks of rice/sugar lumps and putting them deep in the elephants mouth. Such a peaceful, serene thing to see. Beautiful. The Indian government have banned riding on elephants, so if you want to ride on the back of an elephant, go to Chiang Mai in Thailand.Apart from the elephants and deer, the pace is teeming wth butterflies and there is a butterfly building where you can get deeply into them if you want. There is also a native arboretum and herb gardens with information like this plant is used by natives to help with skin infections / snake bites / headaches etc. There is a shop building, but at the moment there is nothing in the way of souvenirs to buy. There is also a cafeteria - but it too is empty. If you are planning a trip to Cochin, this place really is worth a visit. It will only get better as it becomes more established and soon be worth 5 stars.
Very neat clean n green eco park. Lots of deers b nilgai. There were 6 elephants too. Good place to spend 1-2 hrs with family n kids.
a reserve forest facility for the Orphaned animals, a Kerala Government Forest Department" initiative. Rare collection of medicinal plants are another attraction of this place. a nice place to go with family and friends. Better avoid infants. Entry restricted by pass with a nominal fee. There is a sales counter from where we can buy hill produces like honey, Frankincense like fumigators etc...
