Abbey Hotel in Bath
Description
Possibly one of the worst hotels weve ever been too. The room was awful quality for what we paid. The shower temperature wouldnt work and the teperature knob was falling off, so I was stuck having cold showers for a week. The fridge was broken, plus the air-con broke halfway through our stay. They didnt offer to change our room or give us any money back. Worst experience ever. STAY AWAY FROM THIS HOTEL. IT IS NOT FOUR STARS!
MoreGreat hotel with nice rooms. Breakfast was really nice but service was a bit hit and miss.
MoreComfortable surroundings opposite the park. Only called in for a coffee but had nice welcome.
MoreGreat hotel in the heart of Bath. Walking distance to everything! Parking is available at the Southgate Shopping Centre a few minute walk away. Only complaint was the air conditioning didn’t work that good and the room was hot.
MoreVery nice staff, comfortable new rooms, and excellent location.
Lovely hotel, right in the heart of Bath. The staff were so friendly and welcoming and nothing was too much trouble.
MoreComfortable hotel in a prime spot. Easy walk to shops, attractions, pubs and restaurants, train and bus stations.
MoreMediocre food. Great location. Noisy at night. Cleaner came daily yet missed filth on the windows and curtains. Treat it as expensive 3star
MoreOutstanding- went out of there way for us! Lovely people! Definitely coming back! 100% recommend this Hotel!
MoreCould not attend trip as my father died suddenly and they would not complete a refund. Very poor customer service with no compassion or empathy.
MoreSpent a fantastic few hours having afternoon tea with 3 of my college friends for our 60th birthdays. Service was great, and they went the extra mile to make it that bit better for us when they knew it was a special celebration. The food was perfect, location so easy to get to as we all came from different directions on public transport. Excellent value. Highly recommended 😍
MoreHad to switch rooms due to noise from kitchens below. First room was extremely cramped with not enough space to open a large suitcase off of the bed. Staff were helpful on changing rooms, but only available replacement was in the basement with no AC.Reception staff were perfect and cant be faulted; the rest of the hotel however, leaves a lot to be desired.
MoreGreat location in the centre of Bath. Very close to all the attractions. The rooms were small but well equipped. House keeping was sporadic and only seemed available once a day. One of our rooms had a faulty air con unit. The Reception staff changed the room with no fuss, so well done. The breakfast service was very poor. No buffet service and an average 30 minute wait to get food and drink. The food arrived cold on several occasions and had to be returned. We gave up on the hotel breakfast and used the many excellent cafes nearby.
MoreExtra star for location.I booked the best room available, £290 a night. When I arrived I received a standard room. When I complained I was told Marriott have the wrong photos on the site. But please be assured you have the best room available. The room was on basement floor and low light. The reception is under staffed and the place just feels a bit old and tired.Needs a good clean and refit.Breakfast was also comical. Good quality food. Just felt like the chef was away and a teenager was plating up. At 9am I don’t expect to be told we are out of bagels or croissants. Just not well organized at all.I will not be returning and I will not recommend this hotel to anyone. Room is worth £150 a night at most.Location, however couldn’t be better in the heart of bath right next to the Roman baths.
MoreI arrived at the hotel and I was greeted by some friendly members of staff. However, once in the bedroom it was a different scenario. The bedroom smelt like cigarettes, the bathroom sink was dirty with someone’s hairs in it. And the air-conditioning didn’t work - All of that for £290 for one night?I would not recommend this hotel to anyone and I will not return. Your pricing is quite frankly ludicrous.
MoreThis is a great place to stay. It’s right in the heart of where you want to be if you’re a traveling through. We stayed here two nights. It was centrally located near all of the sights in the middle of all the sites.
MoreVery clean and large room, comfy bed, friendly staff, and a nice complementary full breakfast. This charming hotel is in a great location and is tastefully decorated.
MoreGreat location and very good breakfast but the room was no bigger than a broom cupboard (there was no space for a chair or tableand there was a generator immediately outside the window that was operating all night long.
MoreFriendly staff but rooms are quite noisy, windows don’t open, and shower was clogged. On the upside, the location was ideal! Good enough spot to use your Bonvoy points in Bath.
MorePopped in for an after work drink with colleagues. It took about 20 minutes for someone to take our order (table service only outside), then another 15 to get our drinks despite it not being busy. 50% of what we ordered was out of stock and then it took 30 minutes and one reminder to get the bill. Im afraid I wouldnt recommend, go over the road to the huntsman.
MoreGreat look, feel & service ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐Would book again for sure 😍Closest car park is only a few minute walk away & right next to the police station, costs about £15 per day (Manver Street car park). Not much further to walk from train station and bus stops nearby & other parking if Manvers is full.Location is great;lots nearby and access to most the best eat/drink spots within 10min or less walking distance.Right next to the river and the river park too.Inside;Has a lovely bar area in the first floor & access to restaurant bar next door which looked good and seems always busy so a decent sign.Communal toilets very nice design & loving the fig and vanilla hand soap 💐💐We had a standard room & were impressed with how spacious it felt, alongside loving the decor. The bathroom shower was amazing, would take that home with us if we could have 🤣Thankfully the TV is a fairly modern one & a great size, plus lots of channels, YouTube & has a Google Chromecast plugged in which was easy to figure out how to connect to from their TV menu 😎🤓Theres one main lift and stairs right next to reception, so its pretty easy to find your way to a room upstairs.Only downside in the room were the pillows, but to be fair were very particular with certain memory foam pillows at home..
MoreDid not get the room I pay for (queen instead of kingcalled maybe 10 times to get back the price gap never get an answer. Not a standard Marriott with all the usual customer serviceHotel is very noisy
MoreReception, Bar and cleaning Staff very friendly and polite. Sanna is a lovely lady and extremely helpful. Hotel is In a good location.would definitely stay here again.Sent from my Huawei
MoreThis hotel was awful, both the facility and the service. Far below Marriott standards. The service was terrible. It seems that the people who work as servers in the restaurant are unhappy.
MoreVintage location nicely rehabilitated. Reserved king room, and told none available at arrival. Multiple calls to address, and no follow-up on taking action. Denied late check-out despite Ambassador and Concierge status. Avoid this hotel.
MoreI came back here for the first time in a decade. Its been completely refurbished and now seems to be part of the Marriott group. I managed to get a room for the night for around £100, but its normally a lot more expensive, but it is a good hotel at the very centre of Bath: Bog Island.
MoreI booked a twin room called Cinematography way in advance thinking it would be a lovely room with at least some kind of a view. Turns out it was in the basement with absolutely no views.I wish I’d read the reviews before coming because I’d have known to avoid this hotel. Abbey Hotel, please do something about those basement rooms you claim have “plenty of light”.Other than that the room was spacious, clean and the staff were nice so at least there’s that.
MoreCopy of review left on hotels.com:Unfortunately, as per the title, very poor management of the hotel. It was a busy bank holiday weekend; but on the 3 nights we stayed, our room only got managed to be cleaned once - and not very well at all.Rooms fridge/cooler was faulty, was promised a quick replacement - never happened. Shower enclosure leaked and the shower tap handle was constantly falling off due to missing screws. Extractor in the bathroom was non functional.Got a good will gesture free meal on last night and a promise that they would speak to hotels.com to get us a part refund - but that didnt happen. Ended up having to get hotels.com involved myself and got a full refund for the stay.Such a shame as its an amazing hotel on paper in a fantastic location. Think the general manager really needs to look at this and decide whether he needs a change of career.
MoreReally nice location, river is just to the left of the hotel, centre of town to your right.Room was a really good size, and clean and the staff were brilliant.Getting checked in and waiting for our room was longer than expected but the staff made it all better by laying on a full cream team while we waited.
MoreI attended a birthday afternoon tea. Beautifully presented food, tea, coffee by very pleasant staff. We were not rushed out even though we gossiped for ages!
MoreThe hotel is in a great central location and the staff were very friendly and helpful. However, when we arrived in our room, a collection of left belongings and rubbish from the previous guests had been left on the bed. The receptionist was very apologetic and gave us a voucher for two free glasses of Prosecco but it was still not a good first impression. The room itself was incredibly warm and the air conditioning system was displaying an ‘error’ message. We reported this to reception and this was reset centrally. Unfortunately the message returned immediately and we had to contact them again. We were told a member of the maintenance team would come and fix this. They didn’t and another member of staff told us the following morning that the maintenance team actually don’t work at the weekend - surprising as I would imagine this is peak time for a hotel. We were staying in a family room with our two children and we all struggled to sleep as the room was just so hot. This was our first visit to Bath and it is unfortunate that this was our experience. The hotel staff were friendly and the hotel has great potential.
Morestuck in a basement room that was accessed via the restaurant and kitchen area, mentioned that our phone didnt work twice and yet still wasnt fixed or even looked at, no real willingness to make the stay comfortable, rooms are clean enough and beds comfy and nice bathroom, and great location on the doorstep to everything, but would I stay again? I doubt it as four-star prices with 2-3 star feel
MoreThere was a fan outside our room that ran all night (despite being told it would stop at 10.30keeping us awake. We complained and asked to move but were told there were no other rooms. We paid extra for a superior room but it was very small and being next to a fan and back door that people used throughout the evening meant our stay was sleepless and extremely disappointing. I would not stay again and would definitely not recommend!
MoreOne of our best hotel stays ever. Such a beautiful, accessible property. The staff accommodated us in every way. We cannot wait to return!
MoreNice hotel in the middle of Bath. You are right in the centre of the city life and everything is in easy walking distance. Rooms are very nice, perhaps on the tight side but you have to remember that it is a very old Georgian building. I was looking forward to a long soak in a bath but my room only had a shower. You had to book for breakfast. On arriving I was shown to my table and the lady appeared very harassed. She in herself was delightful but service that you would expect from a prestigious hotel was missing. It would appear that she was doing all the orders and the other two young waitresses were just for clearing tables. At 7.00am and first service that was not an issue. They may have been better utilised helping with service. It took me 30 minutes for my breakfast to arrive. I was on a tight schedule and I did not have time to enjoy. The food was good but I was offered no fruit juice or additional toast. Bit disappointed really
MoreHad a 2 night stay in this hotel and really enjoyed the small plate menu and drinks. You couldnt ask for a better location close to sights, eateries, shops and pubs. We had breakfast outside of the hotel only a few minutes walk away, only because we didnt want to be tied to a time. Staff were friendly and helpful and bedrooms were clean and well presented. Would definitely stay here again!
MoreStaff very friendly. Photos look lovely reality very different. Approaching hotel very nice looking get close window boxes full of dead plants weeds all round out door seating area, cig butts on ground didnt see this getting cleaned at all during our stay 5 days. Tables were cleared after you had drink. Room we had nice view windows filthy, large light fitting in room thick dust, bathroom great big crack down wall, stain and grunge on outside corner off bath.Tiles in shower area needed good clean.Marks on doors in lift there for duration of our stay. Food in restaurant not bad. Bar was okay. Think for what is charged these issues are not really acceptable. It was reported and the light fitting was cleaned, grunge on bath cleaned but not great. Do not think standards are good enough. Mr and Mrs East
MoreWe had a wonderful two-night stay in Bath thanks to the Abbey Hotel. Staff were all extremely helpful and friendly. We requested a room that was not in the basement after reading bad reviews here and elsewhere. We were given a ground-floor room (015and were initially concerned since it was next to the ladies’ toilet. However the room was very quiet, not to mention spacious and clean. We were traveling with our small dog which cost £15/night. It’s the perfect location to explore Bath on foot and there’s no need for a car as it’s a short walk (<10 minutesto the train station. Not all the staff were able to answer questions about different attractions in Bath but we had a good idea of what we wanted to do anyway. Highly recommend this place for a short stay in Bath.
MoreI had booked a standard double room and received an upgrade on arrival, I hate to think what our original room would have looked like given the quality of the superior room we received. The room was in the basement, in which we had to walk through the hotel restaurant and past a busy hotel kitchen door to reach it.The room itself was so cramped and overlooking a road where people regularly stood outside our window to smoke. The TV was on the wall next to the bed so it would have been so uncomfortable to watch it even if we did want to spend time in the room. The general hygiene of the room was poor, the bed was stained, there was an empty bottle of gin under the bed and the shower was filled with bottles that only seemed to contain watered down conditioner. The location of the hotel is good and the staff were friendly but the fact I paid over £400 for a 2 night stay in this hotel makes me feel unwell.
MoreI had booked a superior double room. The images and description provided whilst booking are a little misleading. On arriving at the hotel we were taken down into the basement where a tiny window looked onto a little courtyard with pipes and drainage from surrounding buildings. Not ideal having paid around 300£ a night. The staff was accommodating and did change the room but the size of the room compared to what was seen in the images doesn’t add up and in general the level of hygiene was appalling. The basin in the bathroom was stained yellow around the drain. We tried turning on the exhaust and it fell through and was covered with grime and no one even bothered replacing it during the daily clean. The bathtub was mouldy. The bathrobe was stained and mouldy. The bedroom carpet has crumbs and toothpicks from a previous stay.
MoreGood location. Rooms are awful, room was basically a broom cupboard with a bathroom. Windows are completely frosted so you have no natural light and can’t tell if it’s sunny or raining. My room was right next to all the services which run through the night! And very much had water stains from a leak.Hallways smell like damp.
MoreThe quirks and features - good and bad.Great location.Friendly staff.ROOM - We stayed in a special Cinematography room. What differentiated it from any normal room was that instead of the usual pictures - there where 3 empty film reels, instead of maybe a vase, there was a simple wooden model old camera and tripod. So not really different.Next the view - see photo, the wall of the building opposite was about 3 feet away. The size of the room can be described as about 3 foot in 3 directions around the bed.The A/C control doesnt do anything. On arrival it was cold although the control said it was 21.5. We set it to 22, then 24, then 10 hours at 26. It never moved from 21.5.PARKING - the recommended parking is less than 10 mins walk back to the hotel, but on a Saturday, it was first a 35 minute drive.RESTAURANT - the hotel menu is very limited, about 6 mains. Innthese Covid times, one waitress went the entire duration of our 3 course meal wearing her mask on her chin. Like a beard net. Although I assume she had not come from the circus.
MoreVery friendly welcome and interactions with all staff and a nice, well decorated (if a little smallroom. We found there were a few cleanliness issues that we felt, given the current circumstances, should have been attended to more thoroughly. There was a large dust build in some places and the mirrors were all smeared. It didnt make us feel confident that everything had been sanitised effectively.
MoreCame here for afternoon tea with my boyfriend. We both work in hospitality so we understand the business and this place was sooo disappointing. We had the afternoon tea at the bar with no soul around, when the plates arrived all the food was old, smelly and tasted funny with no flavour. We tried 2 types of stuff and left 70% on the plate, we then saw that the cakes below in the picture were full of mold and I said to my boyfriend this cant be blueberry as it was full of mold stains everywhere. We called the waiter and he took the cakes on a plate to the chef, he then came back hence: without the cakes and said it was only blueberry. We were shocked of their allegations and we confirmed that the food was not good standard and they said only sorry YOU didnt like it. No discount, no apologies, no nothing. We told all our fellow coworkers of the industry not to ever come here and we say the same for our clients. We made a complaint in private to the website 2 weeks ago but never got a response from the owners. Such a disgrace for the hospitality industry. Never again we will come here and will tell everybody to avoid this place.
MoreNice hotel in an amazing location right in the centre of Bath. Rooms were a bit small but were very clean and modern and staff were friendly/helpful. Breakfast was also really good and theres a nice outdoor seating area attached to the restaurant. Not a huge number of amenities and no on-site parking but thats to be expected for a city hotel. The TV volume is locked at a very low level which we found frustrating as we struggled to hear it over the air conditioning. Appreciate why this is done but could be louder without disturbing other guests.Overall, this is a very good hotel for a short visit to Bath but if you plan on staying longer I would look for a place with bigger rooms and more amenities.
MoreGreat location and really enjoyed the room with that added touch of having a dog bed and water bowl waiting for our little one. They also provided a list of dog friendly places. Service was a bit slow in the restaurants but they were so busy coming out of lockdown. Im sure it will improve.
MoreMy family and I had a wonderful stay at the Abbey Bath hotel. I had previously visited in September 2020 and was not disappointed on the second visit. It was my mum’s birthday during our stay and the staff did everything they could to make it extra special. In particular, Kara at reception was very friendly and helpful both before and during our visit and went above and beyond to ensure we had a wonderful time. The bar and breakfast staff were also incredibly helpful and accommodating. Thank you to all of you for making our trip so great. This hotel is perfectly situated, less than 5 minutes walk from the Roman Baths and Abbey. The rooms are also comfortable and clean. Would highly recommend to all
MoreRecently stayed here with my daughter, the staff were absolutely delightful as was the food. A special thank you to the lady receptionist, despite having injured her foot she helped move us from one room to the other, having stayed in hotels all over the world, she provided the most impressive service I have encountered, and we will most certainly be returning based on her level of service, thank you again for making our stay so perfect, and look forward to seeing you all very soon.
MoreVery convenient location as it is located right next to the Abbey. The room has a chic deco theme. Staff is very nice. But somehow there were some flies in the room which made us concern about the hygiene. The house keeping also has room for improvement as every night we came back, the bed which was already made still got some hairs stuck on it. Not to mention when we checked in for the first night, there was a hair on the bed!!!
MoreMy first trip since COVID lockdown and I’m happy to say that this hotel was both busy and operating safely.I had an excellent experience there. The room was clean and the public areas spaced out with plenty of hand sanitiser dispensers available. It was expected that you wore a face mask in the public areas except the bar and restaurant.Breakfast was a booked slot but there was some flexibility of course. There wasn’t a buffer but instead hot food was cooked to order with the addition of a continental grab bag of items. Overall very satisfying. The staff were wonderful and very helpful. Several requests for extra items in the room were quickly attended to. First rate.
