29 Bachelors Walk, North City, Dublin, D01 AX90, Ireland, Dublin
Just off the city's main street, this simple hostel is set in a colourful townhouse on the River Liffey's waterfront promenade. It's a 3-minute walk from Luas light rail, a 2-minute walk from Temple Bar nightlife precinct and a 6-minute walk from Trinity College.Free Wi-Fi is offered in basic mixed or female-only dorms, in addition to private rooms and apartments. En suite bathrooms are provided in most dorms and all private rooms; others have shared facilities. Modest 1-bedroom apartments have full kitchens, living areas and TVs.Along with free breakfast, amenities include a guest kitchen, a TV lounge and laundry facilities.
Wont go there again. Dont recommend for solo-travellersI was honestly disappointed by my stay at the Abbey Court Hostel, mostly because of the atmosphere. As a solo traveller I didnt really have the chance to connect to others, as almost everyone seemed to be staying with a group. There was no atmosphere of people connecting with each other. Often other guests didnt even greet me back in the hallway. The facilities may have been modern and outstanding when the hostel opened 23 years ago, in my opinion it is quite outdated now.Other aspects that didnt make my stay much happier include:- Cleanliness, would rate 6/10. While showers and toilets generally looked clean in the first place, at the same time there was a plastic razor cap dropped by someone in the shower which still wasnt removed after the four days of my stay. The floor of my dorm was totally dirty (youll understand why with my next point). It was probably not cleaned at all during my entire four-day stay.- Construction workers passed my dorm in the morning to enter the flat roof of the second floor, where they machined metal cages with a flex. This was not only incredibly loud, so that I got woken up, but their dirty, wet shoes also soiled the floor. This happened on 2 days of my stay. On one other day you could as well hear loud construction going on in the morning in some other area of the hostel.- The curtains of the bunk beds could be opened or closed only for all levels of the beds at the same time.- The reading lights of the other levels of your bunk bed also brighten up your bed. The person sleeping above me had their reading light on until at least 2 am every single night, what made it really hard for me to fall asleep.- There was no wifi available at our dorm.- Showers were unpleasantly hot, you cannot regulate the temperature.- No proper power outages for hair driers available in the bathrooms. You can only dry your hair either in your dorm or in the hallway, both with no mirrors.- I booked a 6-bed dorm, but was assigned an 8-bed dorm without any notice or refund. To be fair the room was not full, but still...- Storing your baggage in a safe space at the reception, which is not accessible for the whole hostel unlike the general storage room, costs an extra free of €3 per small bag and €6 per large bag.Positive aspects of my stay:- The hostel is very central, you reach everything important within few minutes of walking.Next time in Dublin Ill definitely book with another hostel.
Location really central and staff is nice. The building is a bit of a maze though, because it’s two buildings connected by a bridge. So for certain rooms (16-19 I think), it’s a bit of a trek to get to the room. Only gross thing was I found someone’s clipped nails on my bed. Not sure if the sheets weren’t changed or properly cleaned before I arrived? That was a pretty disgusting find in the middle of the night.
Worst stay ever. Stayed in a room (booked 20 people roomwith 32 beds. It was a basement room and not ventilated at all, it smelled like death and old socks. It was all in all just unfriendly, disgusting and it wouldnt be a problem for me if it wouldnt be so f-ing expensive.
we stayed there during our classtrip and were traumatized. there were so many ways going nowhere and we got lost all the time. Were also pretty sure the whole hostel is cursed. Dont go there if you want to stay in your relationship!!!
Unfortunately the hostel was very dirty and the staff was unfriendly. I expect more cleanliness for this price. At least the location was good, close to the city center.
Great breakfast, great staff!Warm sausage roll included in the free breakfast was a nice surprise.
Great amenities and staff. Quiet and clean for such a big hostel.
The rooms do get stuffy at night and fighting with the storage box under the bed due to the weird positioning was frustrating on a drunk night. But the staff are friendly and have good suggestions and the cleaning staff keep the place fresh and decent. I suggest going early for breakfast. This hostel is big and can be a maze once inside. But ita affordable and in a centralized location
Great location next to Temple Bar, incredibly nice staff that speak multiple languages and all for a good price. Cant recommend enough, however, earplugs, eye mask and a lock are a must have.
Excellent value for your money as a solo or small group traveler. Friendly staff, unbeatable location, clean facilities. Highly recommended!
I am a young, female solo traveller from Canada and I visited Abbey Court Hostel in early October (first time in Dublin! The staff at the front desk were very welcoming, making for an easy check in (and out). I stayed in a 10-bed mixed dorm, which was at the back of the hostel. The room/bed was clean (and I have relatively high standards), and I saw the beds being changed each time someone left which was reassuring. There was a strange smell in the bedroom (most likely from non-showered visitorswhich made it hard to enjoy being in the room for more than sleeping. This was really the only unfortunate thing, and it was likely just a fluke. That said, everyone in the room was pleasant but kept to themselves (I think this is rare for Abbey Court, as it’s a social hostel! The common room and dining rooms were clean, comfortable and hosted friendly guests! They also had a wide variety of bathroom options, ranging from communal to single stalled female with toilet and shower. I loved the fact that they had female-only bathrooms because it made changing/showering much more comfortable. This place is very traveller friendly and great for a short-term stay. While centrally located and easy to access transport systems nearby, I still felt very safe and had no issues with leaving things under my bunk! Would recommend! Thanks for the awesome hospitality :)
Unless you are afraid of the dark this room was a joke. They put the fire exit sign virtually above the bed! When I complained they couldnt really care less and told me to email the owners. If you want to stay in Dublin find somewhere else if you can
Great location in the middle of Dublin! A place to be if you want to safe some money. Hostel has great beds, a simple breakfast to start the day. Four stars due to the not clean shower.
I initially didnt expect much as it was a shared budget hostel but I was wrong. The wall was decorated with arts painting. When we entered our mixed dorm room, our was at a corner compared to others, probably because we booked earlier so it always pay to book early. Also, there is a curtain for privacy and a trolley cage which can be pulled underneath the bed which is a cool concept. The toilet for the mixed gender bed is outside which is relatively clean and the shower has area has free shampoo for us provided by the hostel. Showering area is quite big too.Another good point is there is free breakfast buffet provided such as Irish sausage roll, mini pancake, cheese, ham, bread, cereal, milk, fruit juice, hot drinks which run from 7.30am-9.30am.Also, there is shared kitchen, study area and gaming room and relaxing room of sort.Overall, it exceed my expectations and even though it is stated as 2 star, it is worth at least 3 star for me.
Stayed here for 2 nights no air conditioning or windows in rooms of 10 so very stuffyLots of students running around making lots of noise until 2/3 in the morning so little sleep
Great location, free breakfast was good as well, but knowing we had an early tour one of the 2 days we stayed they didn’t provide any options for an early breakfast ( nothing available to grab ahead of time ). Considering the cliffs of Moher tour is very popular among tourists they could provide some accommodations if they advertise they offer free breakfast. Another thing - we booked a dorm room and one lady kept coughing, but they could not do anything about it. Other than that, everything went smoothly.
What a mess for a price that you would expect more for. Hard and small bunk beds, a dirty shared shower and toilets, the people at the reception where nice but I would definitely expect just normal functioning and clean facilities for 70 euros per night. Definitely no recommendation worth.
Abbey Court has a great, central location, not being far from various bus stops around the city and to the Dublin airport. The facility itself was decked out compared to most hostels I’ve stayed in, with a robust eating hall, bathroom and shower options, breakfast, and more. My favorite part was that every bunk had its own black-out curtain to keep disturbance from light low. The facility was clean, organized, and professional. And the staff at the desk were very kind and helpful. They even made change into coins for me so I could grab a water in the early morning. Highly recommended.
Great location, friendly staff, but the rooms lack ventilation it becomes really hard to breathe at nights
Worst Hostel ever! They constantly were checking in unsupervised school kids that ran around banging on doors, slamming thier doors and more. Bthrm are ridiculous. Even a skinny person had to wedge themselves up on the wall to shut the shower door. Sitting on the toilet was a bigger joke. They refused to accommodate you in anyway unless there was an upgrade available and then they made you pay. The free breakfast, a joke and gross. Worst of all, they laughed when I said I had a very sick girl in my room and said to me, she pd for the rm just like you. I wasnt aloud to sleep in the empty hammock rm because I had a bed. We wont even get into the 24 hr/7 days a wk party outside.
Hostel is in a good location. The co-ed room we stayed in smelled like sweaty socks for the two days we were there. Noise from the street kept me up a majority of the night. Ladies bathroom hand soap was empty the two days we were there so if you went to the bath room and someone was using the shower you had no way to disinfect your hands. Bathroom floors were dirty and gross. Everything is secure! No one is aloud in with out a key card and there are guards outside all night making sure no one without a key card gets in
The wifi didnt work so I had to use my mobile data all the time👎🏼.. I also had to buy from them an adapter due the rooms doesn’t have a normal usb entrance 👎🏼 The location/breakfast / and personal were amazing , okay👍🏼The room was bigger and clean.
Pro’s: In a very central location in Dublin. You walk outside and you are in downtown with easy access to all the amazing museums, food and entertainment. Free breakfast in the mornings (although a little sad). Free WiFi and storage.Cons: It was a little bit dirty overall. The doors would slam shut loudly. Overall felt it was overpriced for the value.
Great value for money, the location is perfect near the river, 5 min to the main commercial area and to the Temple Bar area. The staff is nice and the breakfast is really good for a Hostel like this. Rooms are ok.The art painting on the walls is amazing! Totally recommend spending some time checking out all the art spread around the hostel.Downside: Looks like Ryanair for Hostels, they will charge you for everything other than the room and breakfast. Charger, adaptors, luggage storage, lockers... everything you need to pay extra. The old community sense around hostels is dead in this one. Still a good choice for Dublin!
Pretty good as far as hostels go,the staff were friendly when I checked in and out, there are extra toilets and showers on each floor, layout is a bit confusing until you get the hang of it,free breakfast was pretty good, location is perfect, easy walk to Temple Bar and other attractions,I would be happy to stay there again
Rooms - the rooms were quite awful. There was only space for your luggage in iron boxes underneath the bed, they are not that safe.I slept with 6 people for 5 nights and i could barely move. I still give it 2 stars because I had a view on the river LiffeyService - There was a common room, okay breakfast, table tennis tables, a cinema room and even a hammock room.No reason to complain at allLocation - The location coudnt be any better. Its located at the river Liffey in the heart of the city. The bus to the airport stops nearby.
Pros-location is really good- kitchen is good, with enough fridges and spaceCons-Loads of stairs.-i was on the 3rd floor. There was 2 male toilets for over bedrooms. Always had to wait. Mentioned to a member of staff an got told to look in the other floors (which are the same)-rooms are small, little to no ventilation, nowhere to seat.-reception staff wont move a finger to make it better (asked for a fan and got told I should have asked in the morning, eve. Though I checked in 4pm)-unlike every other hostel in the world, you have to pay to leave your luggage for a few hours after check-outFor more than one night, Id recommend going somewhere else
Abbey Court what can I say, many many things. The location is excellent. It’s right on Bachelors Walk next to the river liffy. Super close to everything. The staff are friendly and helpful as well. Once you enter the hostel it feels like a maze. The stairs were built in an extremely disorganized fashion. The room is fine. Basically what you would normally expect from a hostel. The bed feels like a rock and the pillow is no help at all. All the fluff is gone. So sleeping should not be your priority if you choose to stay here. Especially with the seagulls. There a nuisance.
do not book unless ur prepared to find new accommodation on arrival.booked a private room months in advance read the rules i am 18 staying with two of my 17 year old friends as the rules of the hostel wrote anyone under 17 is to be accompanied by anyone over the age of 18 upon arrival we were told that we weren’t aloud to stay as i wasn’t there legal guardian although it never mentioned that in the hostel rules and when we offered to ring there parents to confirm it’s okay they said no they gave us a free refund but don’t understand how it’s okay in there eyes to leave us on the streets for the night even though they are a “youth hostel” .
The location of the hostel is great. It has a big shared space to for when you have time to relax. And they serve a fair breakfast. Nothing special, but they serve coffee! The only big problem with this hostel is that its not suitable for tall people. The bed was shorter than me. And the shower was so low that I didnt fit well under it.So recommend but not if you are tall.
Pros: clean, great locationCons: noisy all night (there’s a bar next door), bed was like a stone, no ventilation (hotter than hell), expensive (I booked my first night in 70€ and the next two nights were 120€ each), there’s no security for baggage (you have to bring your own lock), breakfast is only served until 9:30am (they could do it until 10:30am and that would be perfect)
Abstract: Don’t book this accommodation except if you clarify that your room is not looking on the street !Firstly, the hostel is huge! You can easily lost over there. The location is so good, it’s so central BUT if your room, like ours, is facing the street you cannot sleep at all during the night. It has huge kitchen, and common rooms. The breakfast is really poor. There is nothing much to eat. After the first sleepless night we requested to change the room, but they said that they have to change lot of things on the computer and it’s very difficult for them. The rooms are also very small!Zero customer service they just need your money. I would not recommend!
I’ve just come back from a 3 night stay at Abbey Court. The location is absolutely FANTASTIC. I had to get the bus to one place but apart from that everything I wanted to do was in walking distance from the hostel. So handy! The staff were helpful and the breakfast that was included was pretty good. The only two negatives I have (and they aren’t really negative), is that there is stuff like a cinema room but it is not advertised when the movies are or anything like that, so I didn’t really end up utilising stuff like this. The only other thing is it’s quite noisy. Obviously it’s city centre so that is to be expected and to be honest if you can sleep through a little bit of noise (like I can!), you will be absolutely fine. Great for a few nights. Comfy and clean!!
Abbey Court was a great place to stay in Dublin. The staff really friendly and helpful. The hostel clean with lots of open spaces and a perfect location to explore Dublin
It is in a good location. However there are a number of other Dublin hostels ideally located near the city centre. The prices are extortionate for just a basic room without security of belongings. They charge extra for the bare essentials. Not to mention the fact that they leave you waiting around half the day for your room to be ready.
Staff Is Amazing, i find something wrong and i talk with the staff, suggest to be more careful about the cleaning. The position Is amazing close to all the most important attraction,Trinity college, the Castle,Grafton street,st Patrick cathedral.thank you ti all the staff for the service they provider and if you come to Dublin call abbey court hostel.
This hostel was very clean, everyone staying here was extremely quiet and courteous, and the staff were excellent! Will definitely be returning!
Stayed here many times over the past 10 years. Its a bit of a maze within but its clean and organised for a hostel.Accommodation in Dublin is very expensive right now, apparently due to the government housing Ukrainian refugees and staff shortages coming out of the pandemic, and hostels also seem to have increased their prices.
Great hostel, very easy and comfortable. The only problem i had is the power outlets on the wl suddenly stopped working no answer from staff and the shower is not very strong and very small bathroom
Good location, adequately clean. Outrageously priced (97 euro, plus 6 euro to securely store my bag for a couple hours). Inadequate secure storage in rooms (i couldnt fit my bag in the locker). No shelf or storage next to bed to put your glasses or phone when going to sleep. Bed felt like it was going to tip over when I climbed to the top bunk. Follows the Irish custom of providing only a duvet to sleep under, which means I was melting all night long (a sheet and a blanket is a much better option so you can at least adjust for a comfortable temperature.)
Pros: Basic hostel in a convenient location. Has security. Good interior decor. Breakfast included.Cons: Not enough space to store larger luggage in the dorm room, took 10 min for hot water to come in shower, no hair dryer in the bathroom (need to take a special request from the front desk after giving ID). I have stayed in many hostels before, if clients have to leave earlier than breakfast time, they do provide some takeaway breakfast. Here that was not the case unfortunately. Door to the room was creaky which meant that you could hear everyone coming in. Ear plugs advised. For 90€ for a dorm bed, I expected a bit more...
Absolutely awful service throughout our stay. I recently (20th may - 22nd maystayed at Abbey court Hostel. On the first night, after I had got in I decided to climb into my top bunk bed, to find it was being occupied by an American woman! Both of us clearly traumatised. It then took until 4am for the reception desk to rectify this, and I was given a bed in the same room which came with a drenched mattress.Throughout the saturday day, I then was surprised to see my key card would not work the following day, and after going down the reception 3 times to rectify this, it still wouldn’t work. I Then went out again on the Saturday night and low and behold, was greeted by another person in my bed, this time an elder male, who I had unfortunately awakened as well at 3am. This was then again referred to reception but I was told there was no free beds in the hostel! And was after an hour of deliberation, was asked to leave the hostel at 4am, meaning I was roaming the streets of Dublin with no where to stay. Great service! This then resulted in me getting a taxi to the airport (after numerous failed attempts at staying in various hostels jotted round the cityand PAYING for an earlier flight home.If you like paying expensive prices, for no bed, no shower sanitation, a soaked mattress and awful customer service, I’d recommend this hostel! Absolutely the worst hostel I have stayed in throughout my stay in any European city and the only bad hostel I have ever stayed in, during my time in dublin. Would have gave 0/5 if was possible.
Overall my stay here was fine. The location is great, right in the city centre. The complementary breakfast was okay, nothing special, but a nice touch nonetheless. The showers are either freezing cold or SCALDING hot (there’s no way to adjust the temperature). The hostel is a total maze. Like it’s not logically mapped out… the way to get to your room just doesn’t make sense. The doors to the room slam shut. I had a top bunk right next to the door and unfortunately the curtain doesn’t go all the way around the bed so I had the exit sign shining in my face all night which doesn’t help when you’re trying to get used to a new time zone (daylight and nighttime). The hostel also doesn’t have much in the way of promoting social connectedness. The staff are not overly friendly either. However, other pros are that there’s regular cleaning and it’s a comfortable enough place to sleep. It’s not like you’re going to be spending all your time at the hostel anyway. Would I stay here again? Sure, but it wouldn’t be my first choice.
Positive:Location, helpful staff, nice chill-area, fully equipped kitchen, breakfast included, good WiFi connectivity.Negative:No (or badventilation in the rooms, breakfast could be richer (lack of variation). Bring a padlock if you want to lock your stuff inside the metal containers in the rooms! You have an option to buy it at the reception (6e).For ~80e per night in 33-bed sleeping room, youd expect a tiny bit more, hence 3 stars.
Abbey Court Hostel is right in the middle of Dublin, across the street from the Temple Bar district. The buses pick up just down the street and its incredibly central and in walking distance. Very clean and has a twenty-four hour diverse staff who speak a lot of languages. A lot of diverse groups checking in from students to teachers to young and old travelers. Its a very welcoming place. I recommend it for whatever reason you come to Dublin. This was my first hostel I ever stayed in. I would definitely stay again.
Buyer beware: Abbey Court wasn’t the pleasant stay I was expecting. Staying during St Patrick’s Day, I was met with friendly staff when checking in, but this did not last beyond the first night.Unfortunately the services provided did not really meet the €75 per night I paid for a bed in a 12 person room. Surge pricing is understandable but this was excessive for a cramped room, not the cleanest amenities, and a barely available breakfast. Additionally I was met with argumentative staff over small requests such as where I could fill my water bottle when it did not fit under the small sink (“the kitchen is closed, figure it out”). Displayed in their lobby was the maximum rates from Failte Ireland - saying €70 a night for 6 bedroom rooms (as pictured). Perhaps there is a good explanation as to why my booking rate exceeded this for a busier room, but this seems unlawful. At least the location was great. I could’ve shared a bedroom in a nice hotel for the same price - but I guess you learn from experience.
I stayed and worked remotely from this hostel. The wifi is fast and there are quite a few quiet places in the large communal area to work with few distractions. A great location obviously with heaps of places for lunch and for after work beers. If you are looking to work remotely on a budget you might struggle to find better.
The location is totally the centre of the city. Actually I wouldnt expect this. The rooms are quite clean. Breakfast was a useful gesture but the sort of breakfast was a bit poor. Wifi was perfectly and speedly working. At all, I can surely recommend this place to stay.
Stay was okay, room was clean and staff was nice. However the free breakfast could have been more organized and there were a lot of guests coughing in the lounges not wearing masks… definitely wouldve appreciated masks encouraged in the shared spaces.
My brother recommended me the hostel from my stay in Dublin and I was amazed.First lets start with the location. Better location from this you will not find. Exactly in the center at the other side of the temple bar region.Friendly staff and the beds are very good and comfortable. They offer a simple but quite good breakfast, so ideal for a good start in the morning.
