Plantage Kerklaan 38-40, 1018 CZ Amsterdam, Netherlands, Zaltbommel
Zoo park founded in 19th century, with chimps, zebras & elephants, plus aquarium & planetarium.
Cant recommend it enough - we took about 3 hours to see everything and almost all of it was wheelchair accessible (a couple of awkward paths were signposted to say they werent the best route!). Had an amazing time, and saw so many animals up close. The reptile and bird rooms were so cool, and I made friends with a sea lion! Got our tickets through IAmsterdam which covers tons of places.
Enjoyable experience. Nice place for a relaxed walk, around 3 hours, while watching some animals that, in most cases, seem well taken care of. Others deserve larger spaces. There are also closed areas where you can see insects, butterflies, and several birds.Everything seems properly maintained. You can find several zookeepers in different areas who provide you with some guidance and information about the animals.Entrance is 25 eur.
the zoo is very well maintained, a lot of trees, greenery. The penguins were amazing. thank you for the opportunity for Ukrainians to visit there.
Amazing place even if I didn’t expect to see lions and elephants in the Netherlands since the weather is not the best for these kinds of animals. But the place is very beautiful, the animals are happy and they take a lot of care of them.
Interesting zoo in the heart of Amsterdam. Good collection of birds and animals from various parts of the world. Not the largest of zoos but given its historical context, worth a visit. There is a planetarium (price included in zoo ticketwith informative shows.
Wonderful experience. Kids love this place. Special mention to the cleanliness and maintenance of this place. Its too good. Must visit if you are in Amsterdam.
Worth the price.Beautiful well maintained zoo with not just animals but includes birds, reptiles and butterflies. The zoo includes a wide variety of animals starting from flamingos, chimpanzee, gorilla, penguin, zebra, giraffe and what not. Good for kids and family outings.
A wonderful center city zoo. The enclosures were very natural and the paths were easy to follow with plenty of places to stop and rest. The butterfly garden and the giraffe were our favorites.
wonderful zoo! many animals, it is clear that they are well cared for! on the territory there is a cafe, many shops, a cool store with toys! love to be here!
With in city, fun loving artis zoo keeper shows are highlights. Can be completed in 3 to 4 hrs max. Kids will love it. nicely organized existing small place. Lions, seals, elephants are highlights.I prefer if zoo been moved to BOS or some other location.
Really cool zoo, a lot of interactive and interesting bits to see. You should check out the butterfly garden, its paradisical! My friends and I were concerned at the space for the Lions, very small space. Great day out, would recommend.
One of the most enjoyable zoos in Europe. It is a really beautiful zoo but when it comes to the exhibits but also the park itself. It is clear that a lot of care had been put into the park. Lots of animals to see and lots of variety. The zoo might be a little difficult to navigate. I would have liked some more maps around the park. But besides that it was a very enjoyable visit.Expect to use about 3-5 hours here.
Wonderful zoo, superb layout. But some enclosures, e.g., like that of lions, are too small. Back at our place, theyve huge space to roam around.
Its good but lacking in some regards.Theres a lot of interesting animals to be seen and it has a butterfly area also. Some animals might be MIA during some periods of the day which is a shame, just like any other zoo.Its good a good amount of public toilets and water taps, as well as benches for resting.Enjoy some of my favorite and most photogenic animals from our visit.
Huge, wonderful escape from the city. Perfect for families. Must see in Amsterdam. If you are ready for lots of walking you will definitely enjoy it. Most areas are prepared for stroller walks. Theres a few cafes and restaurants within the zoo and some of them are suitable for babies, equipped with baby chairs and changing tables. We loved it there and will be back again.
Hands down the best zoo we have been to in this world! You can get close to most of the animals. The only thing I didn’t like was that many parents wouldn’t stop their kids from pounding on the glass in the chimpanzee area. I’m fact they were laughing at the chimp getting angry. My 6 year old knows better and got really upset for them. This isn’t the zoos fault but maybe a sign?
Good zoo, many animals, Names & infos in dutch AND english!!!With time, we can hope some old metallic fences will turn into glasses :))!?The lions area is REALLY to small.Be careful, zoo team: some areas have many mice (even inside glass cages), it can be bad for the animals (disease, parasites…).
This was such an amazing zoo. So different than the zoos in the US. The animals are closer and have fewer barriers between them and the visitors. This creates a more intimate experience and left us all so appreciative of the variety and richness of the animal kingdom. The microbia exhibit was disgusting and fascinating and a little "ewww" inducing.I would highly recommend a visit to the ARTIS.
We really enjoyed our zoo visit. Not on the scale of London Zoo (we spent about 2-3 hours looking aroundbut a lovely park setting and not too busy when we visited mid-afternoon. Plenty of cafés, seats, picnic spots and a super childrens play area. Equally good for families or adults. Not cheap at 25€ per adult, but well worth it.
So Good place..Peacefull and nice..On weekends is alive concerts were.Very clean. But food places alredy close at 18.00.. So you will able to catch only Potato.. And even this not delicious 🤷♂️
what a lovely place. ❤️ The children were delighted. The animals were so close. Large parking lot next to the zoo. I highly recommend this place.
Amazing zoo, albeit a bit confusing in the layout. The different varieties of animals will have you walking around for hours, so do set free the whole day if you want to see everything. The animals were very well described in Dutch and English, and not just their names, there were also facts on the boards about the animals. Being able to download a pdf of the map via a qr code is a great idea for a zoo that will waste a lot of paper if you keep using physical maps.Id appreciate more public water fountains, as we almost passed out from dehydration. The whole time we were there, we saw 2; one at the beginning, and one halfway through (2hours lateron a hot day like we visited, you need to survive. Also, I think working out a suggested route around the park could be helpful for those who are easily lost (for example me). There are pull along trailers for kids that are coin operated like shopping carts, spaced around the zoo, so a guardian can pick one up to use.
Very dissapointed by this Zoo.... aspired to be one of the oldest the Amsterdam Zoo is pretty poor in amount of animals, lack of shows and interactive experience. Majority of the animals are not seen, aquarium doesnt exist and penguins are pretty sad to be there. Also lots of renovations and redevelopment what indicates upcoming changes in years. Maybe a chance for better review in years then
This was one of the best zoos Ive ever been to. The place is stuctured pretty well and you dont feel like you are moving between caged animals. There are a lot of open spaces and different species. We bought a combined ticket for ARTIS and Micropia and I definately recommend it. The Micropia museum is also very interesting and interactive.
Great place to visit! Some of the animals can be hard to find or are sleeping around midday but they are well looked after and the zoo is clean. Plenty of places to sit and relax, also has playgrounds for children.
Fantastic zoo! Must see place if youre visiting Amsterdam. It really fes like youre walking among some of the animals as its so open, and birds and other things can just come up to you. The butterfly enclosure in particular is insane, one of the best things weve ever done.
Enjoyable day. It is a full day experience. A bit expensive for food but a good day out. The goats were very active, a seal had just been born, nice butterfly and avery walk through. Easy transportation from Centraal Station.
I went only to the zoo part and its extremely well put together with a lot to see. The animals looked very well taken care of by the staff and their habitats were nice and big. I wasnt very impressed by the lunch options at the Two Cheetahs as they were strictly vegetarian but maybe there are different options at the other restaurants in the park.To be honest even though the park is nice I actually expected more. Maybe thats just me, but the hefty entrance fee (and thats just for the zoo - no Micropia or anything elsealso doesnt help. When I think if this is the best zoo Ive been to, even just in the Netherlands, I think I actually enjoyed the Aqua zoo in Leeuwarden a bit more. This isnt to say you shouldnt go to Artis - its a great time, just a bit overpriced in my opinion.
I really liked the way these exhibits were designed. Most of them were well thought out, larger spaces for the animals. The animals did not seem stressed. The zoo staff was helpful. The planetarium video was incredibly entertaining.
a really lovely zoo! the zoo still had a touch of the wild to it. Still feel bad the animals are in captivity and a lot of them could have used bigger enclosures but it was quiet and calm and very nice to walk around
Nice zoo, on flat park like land. Well spread out and not congested. Interesting selection of animals in clean housing. Highlights for me were the jaguars, reptile and the butterfly houses.
Very nice park. Animals have decent conditions regarding space, and the park is kept with great care, thats easy to notice. Having more space for each animal means less animals than some other zoos, but Id say thats good thing. There is a tropical garden, Ive never seen something like that - butterflies flying all around and lush greenery. The only thing that we missed was planetarium, as they have entrance once each hour, and we didnt want to wait that long (we just missed the entranceas we were exhausted after 7 hours of walking that day (reiksmuseum + zoo). Would surely recommend, especially with kids. Price for zoo was 25 compared to 20 for Reiksmusem, which was a little bit strange for me, as Reiksmuseum definitely has more to offer. Also, very important - you can buy tickets only with credit cards! Thats the case with most of museums/attractions in Netherlands, it seems. Still, it was very well worth visiting. Passage with waterfall was the most beautiful part for me.
great zoo in amsterdam city centre with a very wide range of animals and exhibits. it took us 3-4 hours to get through at a leisurely pace. the food we got from a stall inside was very reasonably priced for zoo food. we couldn’t access the aquarium though — not sure if this was due to it being closed or us just not being able to find the way there but we had a great time anyway. definitely worth a visit!
I’m writing this review after my second visit to ARTIS in about a month. The place is just amazing, especially when the sun is bright outside. Not only does one get to experience the many larger and smaller animals, insects, and fish within the zoo, but there’re even some great places to grab a bite during your visit. Could easily spend 3-4 hours here without noticing.
Such an amazing place! If you have a spare day In Amsterdam it’s a must visit! The animals seem very happy and taken care of! 😍The only downside is the food - a little pricy and not that great, but pizza looked amazing! ☺️
A wonderful experience! I loved the variation of vegetarian food at the restaurant, and it was super delicious! But caution: I thought they were joking about the not-smoking-policy.. but thats true, you can not smoke at all. But I guess thats okay
Great zoo!We really enjoyed our visit. The park is huge and there are so many animals to see!We liked in particular the butterflies forest and the underwater seals observation. Would definitely recommend.
Quite easy to get around. You can leisurely stroll through it and take 4 hours to do it. You will be able to see most, if not all of the animals. Go early, when it is cooler weather.Get a brunch bag. Theyre not too expensive and you get a meal and a hot drink, as well as a cold juice.
Beautiful zoo building within the city. Some of the exhibits/cages look fairly generous, but the crocodile is in particularly small enclosure. Lots of animals. Not cheap (the animals require a lot of care).
Great zoo, many animals, great place to take children, also has some spots for having a picnic and a cafe with a good view on the nearby playground. Unfortunately at my time of visiting some parts were closed because of renovations.
I am in love with this zoo, so much fun and great weatherYou can find almost everything inside, lion, jaguar, Monkeys, giraffes, insects, hippos, etc.Make sure not to miss the butterflies area… very beautifulThere is also a baby changing spot areaCoffee shops and snack shops are available tooSo much love ❤️
The best zoo that Ive ever been to.Alot of animals to seeAny animals you can think of, are at the zooWorth the money!Quite busy today but enough room to see the animals and walk around.Definitely recommend the gorilla, elephants, zebra and lions!Cheap lunch in the restaurant.£15.05 Meat Gyros, Chips and Drink LargeQuick serviceEnough seating areas
A joyful experience for kids and nature lovers. Wheel chairs are very helpful, for the old and the children who cannot walk so long. The child park is in the back and the parents can sit and have a rest for some time. About 26 € for adult and 20 € for child for age 7. Have a nice trip.
A decent zoo. Not too big, but has a variety of different animals on exhibit. You could walk through the whole zoo in hour or two.
If you are on a trip to Amsterdam, this is a must visit place! Tickets can to be booked online. You can get kids trolleys for an additional charge of 0.5 euro, free access to toilets inside. Theres also a map guide, small cafeteria to get coffee, juice and snacks. All the animals, birds look healthy and you can see zoo keepers feeding them. Could see lions, elephants, giraffe, zebras, monkeys, fox, penguins, reptiles, birds, insects too..can easily spend a minimum of 2-3 hours.
Tickets can be bought in advance. One needs at least 3 hours to walk and see all the areas. Animals are really taken care of and it is a pleasure to see them all!
The Butterfly Pavilion is my favourite place on Earth. I love going there to sit and watch the butterflies: pure therapy.ARTIS is a great place for kids and also for adults, plenty to see even if it’s a rainy and cold day. We love it.
This magical place is great to visit with the entire family. There is a large variety of animals that are well taken case off. Do take enough time to spend at the zoo, it is not a place you should run through. Parking is next door so easy to access.
Excellent place, highly recommend. There is no map guide provided to visitors so you need to save photo of the maps in your phone.I recommend you to come early, there is a lot to see there. The planetarium is amazing, it’s mainly for Dutch speakers but the instructor added little explanations in English once in a while. We enjoyed it very much.
This place is amazing. Theres tons of animals of all kinds and its really well kept. Birds, big and small mammalians, reptiles, insects, and more. Even in autum/winter its still possible to see most of them. Absolutely worth visiting if youre in Amsterdam!
