Definitely worth a visit if you like trains.

Fantastic little railway museum, steam, diesel and electric locomotives plus an old signal box and station

Fantastic set-up well worth a visit lucky enough to get a guided tour excellent work done by the team.

Such a cool place. The locomotives stored there are such amazing machines! The staff was so helpful too, giving us tours of locomotive cabs and their controls! Definitely recommend going there.

Wonderful interactive and informative museum. Opportunities to explore inside the carriages and conductor areas. Great exhibitions with memobillia and photos throughout the site. The volunteers were very approachable and friendly. It was a lovely afternoon feeling rail history come alive.

A nice little display of Melbournes train history from the 19-21 centuries. Spend a leisurely hour or two wandering around and within older trains that have been refurbished and restored and take in some history.While the guides are generally knowledgeable about their subjects and their areas of expertise, there is a lack of motivation and/or excitement. Still, a nice place to visit.

Great place to go and appreciate some Victorian Rail History, with some of the engines on display built in Newport.

Incredible museum. Our toddler was enraptured by all the decommissioned trains on display. Heavy Harry is a must see!

First time I have been to this place it will neat a lot of support towards restoring the railway steam locomotives so that there able to show them in full running order. Great place to visit. Five minutes from North Williamstown Station.

thought there would be more exhibits and history displayed. my husband thought there was one of the old sheds open but not the case. could only walk through the old dining cart. suggestions to add nostalgia or dummie wearing uniform,

Well maintened museum and rich collection of locomotives. We visited on Saturday and one of the volunteers has given us a full lecture of a rail history, very informative.

The Newport Railway Museum is located on Champion Road, Newport, Victoria, near the North Williamstown station.The museum opened on 10 November 1962, after the Australian Railway Historical Society (ARHSVictorian Division was allocated space at Newport Workshops by the Victorian Railways to develop a collection of steam locomotives that were then in the process of being replaced by diesel and electric locomotives.Following a safety audit by VicTrack, the landlord and owner of most of the exhibits, the museum closed in February 2010. After various improvements, it reopened in March 2014.On 16 June 2020, it was announced that the ARHS had withdrawn from the operation of the museum and a new group, Newport Railway Museum Inc., formed by museum volunteers, had entered into an arrangement with VicTrack to take over the Museum site lease.The museums regular opening hours are between 12 noon and 5 pm on Saturdays. During school holiday periods, the museum opens on both Saturdays and Sundays, between 12 noon and 5 pm.The museum contains the largest existing collection of Victorian Railways steam locomotives, a wide range of other Victorian Railways rolling stock, and numerous Victorian Railways artefacts. I enjoyed it 100% more than I was expecting. Great atmosphere, lovely old trains.

Great day out with the kids. Very reasonably priced for a family pass. Staff are very passionate and knowledgeable.

I came here as a kid, such a great thrill to be able to walk around and go through some of these amazing old locomotives and their carriages, its like stepping back in time and reliving the past, well preserved and a great setup, would highly recommend especially if you have kids but also great for adults as well.

I would love to see government pour a lot of money into this place. A railway museum has the potential to offer so much and this unfortunately looks like its run out of money. Displays are tired and worn looking, plenty of rust around. This is part of our states history and it all feels a little neglected. That said, I am so grateful to the work these volunteers put in to run and maintain this patch of history. Without the work of these organisations along with Steamrail, Seymour rail heritage centre and 707 operations our states rail history would have simply turned in to dog food tins and landfill.

A wonderful museum run by people who really do love trains. It was wonderful to see some of the really early trains and Heavy Harry. Well worth a visit with the family.

Very Nice Trains Loved It

Great open day. Approx 7 steam trains in operation plus other relics of the past.

I came here 20 odd years ago with my dad, and I checked it out because I was sick of taking the kids to science works, aquarium, zoo etc over and over... it was only $25 for a family of 5, and no parking fees or troubles. Plus you dont have to fight Melbourne traffic if you live in the western suburbs.

If you are into trains, railway, steam rail, vintage steampunk, this is the place. A huge and a rich collection.

I love this place a lot father and grandfather and looking at all the different trains was very very good and see how it was back in the old table you going to the strains beautiful feel it is in amazing place to take your children or adults can go by themselves to go and see these amazing trains and how they were definitely a good place to go

Good collection, and they open various locos and carriages throughout the day and announce it over the PA system as they open up which is handy. Volunteer staff are friendly and very knowledgeable.

Well maintained trains enough for my boy to explore until he gets tired. Shout out to Andrew who spent a good amount of time touring us with really rich information.

Lots of trains to see, but you are unable to go inside most. Would be great if there were tours of the trains to give a bit more information but the signs were still informative. Great for kids who like trains but be prepared not to be able to go on any of the trains. Entry was $10 per adult and our children under 2 was free

Drift back into time looking and physically climbing into generations of trains, engines and carriages and if youve got children theyll just love it because kids are safe and youll be happy when come away from visiting this museum So All Aboard!!!

Great Train Museum run by a dedicated team. Very friendly, informative and helpful. I like that you can climb up onto the trains and have a really good look. For all ages.

A detailed, descriptive array of railway history in Victoria. Staffed by enthusiastic volunteers who are very informative. Well worth the visit

If you love trains, you’ll enjoy this small, but packed, museum of lots of engines that were in use from the late 1800’s to mid 1900’s. Even have a small shed with a nice model railway inside. Every hour an employee puts on a demonstration of the model railway. Answers any questions while running a few engines towing cars. Nice setup

A good collection of locomotives, rolling stick and memorabilia and a very reasonable price.

Wonderful location right near the north Williamstown station. Knowledge volunteers and excellent trains in display. My son loved the model railway.

I called before going to see what it entailed. The guy on the phone was very friendly and was really helpful. The place was awesome. My little boy loved every second and the staff were very knowledgeable. You can tell they are expert train enthusiasts.

Excellent open air railway museum. Good collection. Sadly theyre not undercover and exposed to the salt air.
