888 Hokkien Mee - Chinese noodle restaurant in George Town, Malaysia
888 Hokkien Mee in George Town
Description
Privilege
Re-visit this 888 hokkien mee after the pandemic. The original lady boss was not there anymore. The taste is not as good as before. Now replaced by new workers and not so friendly as before.
MoreOne of the best Hokkien mee you must try if happen to be in Penang island. Was there during dinner time. Long Q and self service. Pay by Touch n Go EWallet. Parking will be an issue if you drive.
MoreGood taste take long time for waiting queue but valuable for waiting
Better then I expected. Good portion. Hot soup. Above average. Add on siew yok RM9 per small bowl. Have to queue n self serve. Would go back again.
MoreDelicious hokkien mee, nice soup, but quite small portion. RM6 for normal size, i suggest to add RM1 for more noodles. Long queue and very hard to find parking nearby
MoreSo yummy and i love that i can have the hokkien mee with roast pork ribs.
Several Friends recommended 888 Hokkien Mee on my trip to Penang. Its a must try Hokkien Mee. The broth was truly taste different compared to other Hokkien mee. The topping choices were many. The carrot cake was also good. The satay was yummy and the ice kacang 👍👍
MoreWent before official opening at 3.30 pm. Even then a steady trickle of customers. Excellent spicy broth. RM6 the basic bowl plus RM3 fo roast pork. Recommend.
MoreHokkien Mee + Roasted Pork - RM9.00Ice Milo - RM2.50Hokkien Mee soup base is good. The whole bowl of noodle has this old school feels which I really enjoyed. But the size of the prawn for a prawn mee is pathetic. Only 3 small sized prawns as shown in photos. The worker manning the stall couldnt be any ruder too. Love the meal but not sure if Id come back for it just because how unwelcoming they are.Plus point was the ice milo though which is from another stall. Milo is so thick! So generous and the person taking order is so friendly. What a stark contrast.
MorePrawn noodle with lotsa ingredients and soup is simple and flavourful.
Penang hokkie mee = prawn mee!Must order the prawn mee and remember to get some top up on the sides, otherwise its just a plain prawn soup mee.Other than prawn mee, they do serve chao keow tiew and oyster fried eggs! These trios go very well!
MoreParking a bit hard to find as its household area. More of a local people choice. The har mee and loh mee taste very good. The drinks served here are locality special, especially the "man tao long" which is a sour-ish drink with some sweet jelly. Pricing decent, well recommend to try.
MoreSuper thick prawn broth for a standard hokkien Mee. With the added braised egg and pork intestines, it was superb and definitely will come back for seconds!
MoreTried the Hokkien Mee with Sio Bak add-on and was very satisfied with the umami taste of the prawn broth. It was a little spicy and the additional chilli gave the extra spicy kick. Must try!!
MoreBeen recommended by local friends. This restaurant is just near by our hotel (The Wembleyfor 10-min walking.Noisy and crowed. Many people is lining up. Some of them are not locals. The noodle tasted good. My friend think it is too salty.Worthy to try once.
MorePrawn mee (or known as hokkien mee in Penangwas excellent. You get to add on roasted pork, intestines, egg etc into your prawn mee, and the soup was really on point. Would definitely recommend. You’d have to queue for a while though so be warned.
MorePrawn Mee is SHIOK (amazing!especially with the roast pork. Must try in Penang!
Delicious and authentic taste of hokkien mee (har mee over here in Klang Valley). The soup is thick, fragrant with a tinge of spiciness only.Specialty of this place is additional of pork ribs, roated pork or inerts can be done at additional price.Overall price is cheap for todays standard and portion is reasonable though big eater should order big portion.
MoreMust try is their wan thun mee. Rm6 per plate.
Great food, went three years ago and is still really good now. Highly recommend to add roast pork!
MoreConcentrated prawn broth with rich umami flavours. Though I don’t recommend adding the fried pork (+RM3since it doesn’t really add much value to the already tasty hokkien noodles. Fried egg oyster can be ordered as well, would recommend.Drinks can be ordered when you’re seated within the vicinity.Queuing is inevitable but the owner serves fast. Must speak louder to aunty or else will kena hahaha.Crowd is still relatively light at 6~7pm, managed to find a place to sit before ordering.Overall good food and would visit again.
MoreThe prawn soup noodle broth is so nice and well done, very nice taste. The fried omellete oyster is also well cooked and one of the best in Penang. Thats goes for the Char Kuey Tiaw. Better go earlier to get the food or else will be long queue.
MoreThe hokkien mee soup paste a bit diluted. The additional chrispy pork and intestines taste good.
MoreGood Hokkien Mee and Hokkien Lor, a mix of Hokkien Mee soup and Lor Mee gravy. Add ribs, intestine and others if you like.
MoreHad dinner with my family at this Hokkien Mee stall today. The place is crowded and full of the smell of the Hokkien Mee🍜.They opened at 5pm and its advisable to arrive at 5pm to get a table. The noodles and ingredients are freshly prepared daily. The consistency of the soup Is thick and yummy, full of shrimp 🍤 flavour. Big portions and add on just under RM10 or a normal bowl at RM6. The serving was fast and the taste is great. Large portions of meat , egg and dried shrimp 🍤.The flavor of shrimp with its combination of chili paste makes anyones mouth water! It has been a symbol of Penang famous food and has passed down for two generations. A stall favoured by locals and tourists. The satay beside is also a must try with traditional charcoal grill. It serves chicken, mutton and pork satay at just under RM2 each.
MoreThe hokkien mee is delicious. Spicy and plenty of fried onion. No table service here, you order at the stall and take your food to your table. Its a small shop with limited seats.
MoreOverall OK lo just that the hokkien mee have to self service.
Unexpectedly delicious with the amount of overrated places in Penang. One of the best Hokkien mee around. Queue is long but service is very fast.
MoreFried oyster with egg- taste good, but the texture might vary for each person- normal priceHokkien mee(har mee)- taste great among har mee at Penang- price: Rm 9 (add mee and roasted pork)- small portion, if you are a big eater, please add mee
MoreReally potent and fragrant chili. Roast meat and pork leg not very nice. The serving is also quite little. Prawn broth is not very potent ans cant really taste the prawn.
MoreVery nice Hokkien Prawn noodle can customizer toppingsOuter fried egg consider Very nice. Only serve at 11 ringgit for small portion enough for 2pax sharing
MoreFast food Chinese style. Local penang people favourite place.
Probably one of the most iconic dishes of Penang is the Hokkien Mee (mee yoke if youre not from Penang). And this stall is probably one of the more famous ones in town. Its located just next to the Presgrave Street Hawker Center, housed in its own location now, when it used to be part of the hawker centre years ago.Parking is literally non existent along Presgrave Street, and many a time, youll see lots of cars double parked with the driver waiting for take away orders. You might even have to park down the road along Presgrave Street Ghaut, about 200m away to get here.Having its own location ensures seating inside for patrons. Its decked out like any other coffee shop in Penang, you can be sure to find a place to sit down easily while waiting for your order. You could order your drinks from the coffee shop or try the Ice Kacang from the stall located right outside this coffee shop.As far as the Hokkien Mee is concerned, it is a hearty bowl of spicy shrimp soup with noodles. Waiting about 15 minutes is common, and add more time to this waiting period if it gets busy.
MoreWould not say that its the best hokien mee Ive tasted but its quite good. Like the idea that customers are given the choice to add on ribs, roast pork belly, pork balls, intestines, etc. This is more of a self-service stall where customers are preferred to bring their own orders to their tables. Lady boss is friendly though.Besides the hokien noodle, the oyster omelette is tasty too.Opposite there is a stall selling stir-fry seafood kueh kak, delicious also
More[SIBEH HOLIAO]1Overall - Hawker style shop selling one of the best hokkien mee/prawn noodle in Penang, self service that you need to queue to order and bring to your table, clean environment considering it is a hawker concept, plenty of seating capacity but limited parking for 888 Hokkien Mee2Hokkien mee/prawn mee - super sweet and flavourful prawn/pork broth, whatever it is added to the prawn broth tasted so good, just enough spicy, small portion so you do not need to share :P
MoreOne of the most famous Har Mee and Char Kuey Teow in Town. But the price also more expensive compared to other places in Penang. It’s KL price. For the Hokkien mee (Har Meecan try Hokkien Loh which mix 2 types of soup in a bowl of noodles, this is my favourite way to enjoy this noodles. The CKT has many big prawns that’s why it’s charged at RM15.Ice kacang and Ice Jelly are just okay.
MorePrawn mee was excellent. Broth was wonderfully done. WOW. 5 starsIce kacang was delicious. Each ingredients compliment each other wonderfully. WOW. 5 starsFried oyster was delicious. Only cons was too little oyster. 3 stars
MoreLooked at this photo over and over again! Its so appetizing. I think I can "smell" and remember how it taste over the screen. Best hokkien mee (prawn noodleIve tasted in Penang so far
MoreAh Leng was closed so I had to look for other alternatives to satisfy my cravings for CKT. Found this place and decided to try their version of special CKT. Charcoal fried duck egg.. The wok hei is there, tasty. The fried oyster was from next door and got attracted by the fragrant smell and had to go check out whats cooking. Overall good. A lot of variety if youre not up for this two.
MoreFirst meal upon arrival at Penang and heLL YEAHH it was super duper delicious! Idk is the best one in Penang cause we only tasted one but is no 1 in my heart already the broth is thick and add Siew yoke please is so niceeeee crispy and soaks up the broth . Lor mee very nice also can ordering m they have seats inside so you can sit there and order other food also! Like the drinks outside there, the hojien, pork satay and more so fell free to try everything! Parking was still durable maybe cause we came quite early hahah hope to come back again ! It was PERFECT
More𓄼𓄹𓂃𓂁𓎩𓂄𓂃𓄼𓄹One of my all time favourites hokkien mee (prawn meein Penang. I love how they serve in smaller portion in Penang so that you get to try a lot more variety of food. The oyster omelette here is the bomb! We like the “or chien” here! The first bite of that phat juicy oyster with omelette… it is truly unforgettable and oh-so-yummylicious!!
MoreThe hokkien mee so so, you can only taste abit spiciness on the soup without any taste of prawn.. I think wanton mee taste better.
More888 hokkien mee offer one of the best hokkien noodle in Penang, strong spicy seafood pork flavor. However sometimes the taste is a bit inconsistent. Outside 888 there is a shop selling drinks which has pretty good ais kacang and cendol.
MoreBest Hokkien Mee for me. Only open late in the afternoon though.Highly recommended.ps/ the sao nyuk is added on :also very good
MoreYummy.....1 of the best hokkien mee in Penang.5 stars for taste. However, 4 stars for price. Portion is small for the price of RM 5.The ice kacang stall is not bad as well!
MoreTasty Hokkien mee and cendul and ice kacang..And more.. omg everything is so yummy.Limited seat buy worth your time to having dinner at this place. If u come early, u will have more ingredients but if u come late around 9pm++, there u go...Only prawn+noodles and soup.But..They r still tasty. Hehe
MoreAs a prawn noodle lover, this is pretty disappointed. Those Penang prawn noodle I tried in KL are much better and flavorful. Sub par hokkian mee, just so so. The only good thing is, it is cheap, rm5 per bowl, and it open till late night.
MoreNice and tasty hokkien mee ( prawn mee in kl(rm 5 small portionjust nice to have it without add ons. Oyster was average, bit chewy. Beside has big food court which can order to be send here to dine too. Along road has nice popiah and tasty char kuay kak.👌
MoreThe main food over here is the 888 Hokkien Mee!!! Please order that when you’re here if not you will seriously regret, 10/10. ABC with ice cream is also superb, 10/10. Wan thun mee is quite good too, 8/10. Oyster and Loh Bak are so so for me, 5/10 for both.
MoreSlightly sweet but flavorful slow brew pork ribs + prawn shells + etc...in chili red broth hiding noodles with quarter egg, sliced pork. A healthy serving of bean sprouts is added with fried onion & extra flavored by grind chili paste. Top up with its freshly prepared roast pork....crunch pork skin. Under 25 tables. Each table sits 4 pax comfortably. Either join table or ve a table on your own if it’s available. Good choice
