45 Degrees Kitchen - Restaurant in Thika, Kenya
45 Degrees Kitchen in Thika
Description
Privilege
15/10 would highly recommend. The food is amazing! I last ate here 5years ago and have never forgotten the food or experience. The restaurant is quaint and quiet. The service is quick and friendly. This is probably one of The Best restaurants in Nairobi.
MoreLoved everything about this place. If you want to experience fine dining, this is it. The location is situated in a nice, peaceful, quiet, place...the food, wow.
MoreIt’s not just overpriced, they also have deceptive pricing and dishonest attendants. attendants. Do not recommend!
MoreAmbience and decor are pretty average. the food was good. The Rib eye steak was the best ever. They accommodated the kids gave them some activities and had them play with their tortoise. It is highly priced and they do charge a service charge.I would recommend it, if you are looking to have a different taste of food.
MoreThe location is not precise plus thr gate is not even well labled so you have to find your way via nunerous calls. The prices are too expensive for what is being offered. You can pay more than 3000 ksh for chips and a small portion of chicken. Besides, they charge an extra 10% of the total amount as service fee!!! My bill was 7000 ksh and I had to pay 700 shillings more as service fee!!! Thats insane!! I think because the number of customers is low thus they tend to over price in order to meet their targets.. the setting is nice and friendly personell but no value for money. Better you go to Fogo Gaucho at westlands/kilimani because you will understand what value for money means. With only 2800 at Fogo Gaucho you can die eating meat😅😅. I had a terrible experience at 45 degrees kitchen and I will not recomend anyone to go there. I WILL NEVER STEP MY FOOT THERE AGAIN.
Moretheir wine pairing dinner is super value. exceptional food and service.
The best meal I have eaten in 12 years! The location can be a challenge to find for some but the restaurant rewards you with an amazing ambiance that only gets better as the evening progresses and the sun goes down. The staff is wise and courteous above and beyond what I have experienced prior in the region. I would eat here on my anniversary (if we dont travel elsewhere! And I can see why it is a favorite of the diplomat community in Nairobi. Just call and they will help you have a exquisite evening! Reservations are a must! It is not a large place but it certainly is not cramped as the space is used perfectly. The staff provided street chalk for our children to enjoy themselves as we order and had coversation over the excellent wine. The food coming out of the kitchen hints at magic being done!! I was overwhelmed by the variety of fantastic flavors I experienced with every course. The portions were generous and we left full and happy! I will do my utmost to return before I depart the region. I hope all who read this make a point to eat there at least once in thier lifetime. Fantastic experience all around!!
MoreIt’s a hidden location. I missed the entrance twice 🤦♀️The interior has a rustic feel but it also needs a fresh coat paintThe prices are on the higher side and the food was 6/10Great service
MoreLovely atmosphere. Quiet neighborhood. Enjoyed a Saturday afternoon.
Nice place to have good food...you can bet it will be great place if they spend a bit on ambience
MoreGastronomic restaurant with tasty food and tasteful decor all blending to offer one of the best dining experiences in Nairobi.
MoreOwner insulted guest, calling them a ‘bad customer’ for asking why a neon sherbet pie was substituted for a Salted Caramel ice cream..Some items were delicious (gnocchi), some not so much (lobster soup smelled awful, steak chewy). We were the only group in the restaurant, spent almost 80000 ksh.Had some issues with items not being great or tasting almost identical to prior plates. Brought it up calmly to staff who directed guest to owner, owner freaked out and tried to start a fight, insulting guest and refusing to listen to concerns. Not worth the hype to eat hit or miss plates at these prices and definitely not worth guests being insulted in an otherwise empty restaurant.
MoreVery lovely place. Felt like I was in another country. A hidden gem that serves good food. Definitely going back!!
MoreGreat place. Although hidden in a residential area. The food is good, the staff too. But they give you a 10% service charge which you aint told about in the beginning. They should seek the consent of the customers first. Anyway .....good place for a date 😘😘
MoreI loved the reception the ambience and the interesting art .great wine and food . meeting the chef was a pleasure too .
MoreSuper delicious food and ambience. Perfect customer service. Would definitely recommend it.
MoreThey got nice meals
Super great quaint restaurant. Special 4 course Menu with amazing choices . Expect great service from Bernard .The Food served of culinary excellence by the gourmet chef Harold. his skills are most renowned on this side of the Sahara!
MoreLovely place with great ambiance! The meals are delicious. Great musicThe customer service is excellent and friendly
MoreGreat cuisine and ambience. The prices, however, are over the top for "mtu ya kujilea"We enjoyed and had fun.
MoreHiden in the heart of Garden Estate, serene ideal for special dinner, meetings or social drink up.Meet Fine international chef on the fire decks, with well aged drinks!
MoreThe Ghanaian Tilapia with spicy Aloko and the vegetable sauce, oh my God is an amazing experience and I recommend 45° kitchen to averyone who want to taste the best of the best food in the world believe you me, you will not even leave the bones in the plate.
MoreDifferent location, we were the only two for lunch. Service a little slow to start but great afterwards. Chef made customised pasta, excellent flavours. Didnt have cold shift drinks! They added 10% service charge to the bill but later removed.
MoreDelicious meals. Had the sirloin steak and my wife chose the salmon. For the dessert we went for the salted caramel ice cream cake. The wait staff delivered exceptionally well.
MoreThe food was excellent, but next time I will not take option with wine pairing. Too many different wines made me sick.
MoreNo Michelin star. 45 Degrees Kitchen market themselves as a world class fine dining restaurant, so our expectations were high. The relaxed, rustique setting seemed promising, and the waiters attentive and professional. The amuse bouche was ok. Basically a nicely presented bruschetta. Nothing special. The starter, a crab salad, turned out to be the height of the meal. If only the other dishes could have been equally great..My roasted duck was just ok. Not bad, but not up to the expectations or the price. From the taste, I would guess it had overstayed in the freezer. My wife had ordered a prime rib, which was such a disappointment, she had to send it back. Dry and tasteless. They brought her a steak as a replacement free of charge, and at least, that one was close to top notch.A plus for those focused on quantity, might be that portions are really generous. I could hardly finish my duck. If only they could have been equally generous with the wine included in the pairing, for which both the quality and the quantity left much to be desired. For the desert, I thought the gingerbread pudding looked exciting. Not a bad choice, but I wish I had picked the chocolate cake my wife had.The chef took our grievances seriously, but that is not enough to make up for the whole experience. At the price level of 45 Degrees Kitchen, one should be entitled to something world class!Again, the waiters were excellent, which is why Ill rate this restaurant two stars. The Michelin guide wont!
MoreSimply superb, the food is fantastic and a must for the holiday or any other time! The Chef brings world-class 5-star cooking to a historic neighbourhood in a most unique setting. Child friendly too. Thank you for an excellent dining experience!
MoreThe food is fabulous. A great alternative to your normal everyday cuisine. For meat eaters, go try out the pork belly. And how about blackened salmon for the pescetarian? And many, many more choices.
MoreI really dont understand the high reviews. The portions are tiny and highly overpriced (double), food quality is mediocre. Spend 3000 kes and still hungry! This isnt NY or Paris Champs-Élysées to justify this concept. And Im not a big eater. Cant recommend this place at all. Kitchen was also not clean! I feel sorry for the nice waiters but Im not going back. If you want value for your money go elsewhere. Most people do because the place was totally empty for a Sunday dinner night. This should have been a sign to me. Went home and had to cook as was still starving after these 2 ridiculous just for the eye expensive and just wanna-be fine dining dishes. Outrageous.
MoreThe Best Restaurant in Kenya! What a spectacular meal! The ambiance is wonderful. We dined outside in the courtyard. The staff was so warm and helpful. We had the 4 course dinner which is an incredible value. I enjoyed the wedge salad which was so fresh with an amazing dressing. The crab cake was done perfectly. Not too breaded and a delicious salsa on the side. The prawn dish was wonderful. I asked that it be served without shell and head and it was presented on a bed of the most delicious angle hair noodles. The deserts are over the top fantastic. I had the molten chocolate cake which could have been prepared by the best pastry chef in Europe. We were lucky enough to meet Chef Harold from the USA who opened this restaurant a few years ago and Nairobi is so lucky to have him and his staff!
MoreThis place has been existing for a while now,I dont know where I have been. Anyway its a great gem, very unassuming, i think the signage should be better but the food is worth the find. The complimentary bruscheta, sparkling champagne and pumpkin soup keeps you company as you wait for chef to make some amazing dishes, the plantain!! The menu has great variety of food and drinks. I love the African decor and ambience, so good for a relaxing afternoon and evening. Oh there is also art on sale. The Chef who is also the owner comes to each table to make sure everything is ok. We could have used a hotel towel when we just arrived before serving starters but all in all, I highly recommend 45 degrees and yeah I love that name!!
MoreGreat food , amazing ambience! Wasnt impressed with our server who seemed slower than the avg Nairobi wait staff....( We asked for soft drinks and she kept trying to get us to look at the wine list!but overall great experience!
MoreIts not many times that I review restaurants, but this establishment deserves a review. The waiting staff were professional, hospitable and efficient right from our arrival throughout meal service. The food was exceptionally well done ( fresh not overly seasoned & serving time was just rightmeal items were portioned and plated well. The chef/owner of the establishment took his time to introduce himself & really made us feel welcome. And we were even offered complimentary meal items.
MoreThe place is not easy to find specially at night on the first visit. But the decor is unique, beautiful, rustic type. The food is awesome. Overall a wonderful experience. CDA.
MoreIts not the easiest place to find, but when you do find it, its not impressive. The theme is probably meant to be rustic, but it appeared more unkempt and untidy. After looking around, seeing the open rather scary kitchen, we decided the most we would do is get a drink and eat elsewhere. Glad we did because the costs were outrageous.
MoreThe owner chef, Mr Harold is as good as they get. His attention to detail and taste is very high. The food quality is better than most restaurants in Nairobi. The price for a three course meal for dinner for two and a bottle of wine is close to $200 (20,000 Kshon a sea food night. Its very surprising. However, you can choose not to have the 3 course and order from the usual a la carte menu for about $20 - $35 per plate. The price is very worth the quality of food they serve. So dont worry about paying too much lol.
MoreWe had an amazing four-course lunch at 45 Degrees Kitchen - this is now my favourite restaurant in Nairobi! Each course was very tasty, made with fresh ingredients, and well presented. The restaurant has a charming, rustic, non-pretentious vibe. And the staff are friendly. Overall, very good value for money. If you like good food, you will not be disappointed. Next time well try the wine pairing.
MoreGood place from food prospective. Beautiful serving, tasty food. OverExpensive, but if you buy set - become more affordable. Best deserts.
MoreSo this is a gourmet restaurant, and what you eat and drink is very fine. The service is real professional, which is sometimes rare in Nairobi. The 45° comes from the angle of the knife the chef uses to sharpen his knives. He comes to tell stories at the end of the meals and can explain how he did what you eat. So nice.
MoreI am flabbergasted that the NYT reviewed This so highly when the food for so overpriced and mediocre. The presentation was nice, but other than that the food was okay at best. The squash soup was watery, and the mushrooms in the spinach and truffle ravioli were pre-frozen. The red snapper had a good texture but was not seasoned with anything more than salt and pepper. The rice was too soft. I had asked my leftover courses to be packed up and instead they just threw it out. Additionally they charged a 10% service fee, something I Have never seen ever in Nairobi.
MoreBest home kitchen in Nairobi
Wondering what the rave on this restaurant is about. Food is just okay and nothing to write home about. Found a bug in my soup which was explained away as "being because of the natural environment". Ill take an unnatural environment any day as long as my soup comes without the vermin garnish :( So dissapointed.
MoreQuiet time pace with a serene environment, the food is good, on a scale of five I would rate their food a three, they have excellent services, the food however takes quite a while to be prepared. This was covered for though with many chefs’ compliments. The only other thing lacking is music
More5 star dining experience with an amazing ambience. Great selection on the menu with first rate service.
MoreAmazing service, beautiful, quiet private dining area, friendly owners, worth the extra effort to find
MoreThis an excellent restaurant serving gourmet meals, matching it with the best wines from around the world to give the guest an amazing dining experience !The host/owner is an amazing chef !
MoreThe food is great! The decor , driveway and parking are nothing special. The prices are ridiculous. Paid KES 5,000.00 for a bottle of “ Pure Heaven”. Costs KES 700.00 in the shops. Then on top of the food and drinks bill was charged 10% ETR. Very bad value for money in the name of “ fine dining”.
MoreCozy secret. Very good selection of foods. The chef worked in the San Francisco / LA area and makes terrific food. The vibe isnt for everyone (no marble floors or gold lined railways like if it was a Serena hotel--some people dig thatbut the food is easily the best in Nairobi by a mile. The portions are well thought out (you wont be needing to get anything packed but it will leave you full). It is definitely more expensive than other restaurants around the Nairobi area (Appetizers around 1.5k, main courses around 3.5k, desserts around 1.1k a piece -- prices in Shillingsbut well worth it.
More8 hours later, having come for lunch, staying for dinner and trying most of the dishes on the menu, I can say this is arguably Nairobis best Restaurant. A bit pricey but the food is amazing!
MoreAmazing little secret in Garden Estate! Great choice of wines, wonderful menu and excellent service. My favourite - the beef short ribs with creamy red pepper mash! The chicken lettuce wrap is light and tasty and a great starter! The food sets up a standard that the dessert platter does not live up to.
