4 Leoni - Southern Comfort Food Restaurant in Florence, Italy
4 Leoni in Florence
Description
Privilege
Great experience. The team at 4 Leone provided outstanding and professional service.
MoreLove this place! We walked in with no reservation and they happily and quickly accommodated us. (Although I would make a reservation if you canThe staff is very friendly and helpful. The menu is in Italian, of course, so our waiter translated everything for us and gave wonderful recommendations.everything was amazing, trulyWith an appetizer, two entrees, and 4 drinks I think this place is reasonably priced. The tuna great especially with the onions. The squash blossoms, pear pasta, and both desserts were delicious.I highly recommend this place! Very cute and delicious
MoreSent an email a week before we arrived in Firenze, without reply. We decided to turn up anyway as a walk in. We were told that there was no space outside (no problemand that a wait for an inside table would be 5 mins (no problem either). The wait was about 5 mins, and we were seated. Our drinks order was taken and turned up almost instantly. We then waited 20 minutes without follow up. Throughout this we were asking to order food. One waitress even seemed annoyed that another was not taking the order (she may not have been able to take our order in English, and was waiting for the one that could - no issue there).Eventually we left €10 on the table for the drinks and walked out. Nobody stopped us.A shame, as it almost ruined our evening. We ended up getting street food instead
MoreVery unwelcome feeling. We weren’t greeted and zero eye contact, so we just stood there waiting to be seated. Eventually we just picked a table and the only question we got is “to eat?”. We then had to wait 20 minutes to order food which we had to wait another 40 minutes for (we ordered bruschetta). We had Pasta after that but it was average and also took a long time. Meanwhile other guests that arrived later were being served a lot earlier. When we were finished the waiter slammed the receipt on the table saying “prego”. Awful experience
MoreI had lunch here and I hate to give a bad review but the service was absolutely awful and the food was a huge let down.I ordered an aperol spritz to start and the waiter seemed confused but said he would ask if they have it.He then said yes but I saw him walk with it from another restaurant. It was awful, there was barely any Aperol in the drink and just tasted of soda water.I was then recommended the pear pasta. It tasted of nothing at all. I covered it in salt and parmesan and still couldnt taste anything. The tiramisu was good but lacked some flavour. Now for what really infuriated me. The restaurant was half empty. Seven tables at most with five waiters on duty and I was ignored majority of the time. I had to wave and call waiters each time I needed to order or have my plate cleared or pay the bill. They were not busy with anything and still gave zero service. I was then expected to pay a €3 cover charge?
MoreThis place was so delicious! We had the Fiocchetti di pere in salsa di taleggio e asparagi (pear pastaand the steak ( smallest serving because it was just two of usand they were both beyond our expectations. Come here!
MoreVery rude… The menu is expensive, the plates are almost empty and the quality do not save the game. If you want to eat real Italian gastronomy, there are plenty of other restaurants in the city.
MoreWe have been coming to this restaurant for years and loved it, The atmosphere, the food, the service. This time something about the place felt completely different. Firstly we sat outside and our table was swarming with fruit flies the minute the wine & food arrived. The potato raviolis with meat ragu was the star of the show, although having to constantly swat and remove flies from our food and drinks spoiled even our enjoyment of the food.We brought it to the attention of our waiter and was told there was nothing they can do. Well there is plenty than can be done. The service was also terrible, Im familiar with the fact that because it’s busy the waiters here generally have testy attitudes but in the past they have always been super efficient. But this time we waited ages for everything, from order to food to beverage and table clearing. Some waiters seemed to be doing nothing whilst others were run of their feet.Perhaps they should be encouraged to work as a team.Wed been looking forward to this lunch for weeks - and left disappointed and with serious concerns about the swarming fruit flies.Sorry Quattro Leone - but with high prices you need to provide high quality, and a clean dining environment.
MoreThey were great about providing seating for my wife and I even though we didnt have reservations. We tried the pear ravioli, fried zucchini flower, and baked ravioli and everything was perfect.
MoreBest tiramisu we’ve had in Florence and we have a lot of tiramisu - light mascarpone, not too sweet, delicious. The Tortelli mugellani and Tagliatelle con pomodori are also amazing
MoreFood is amazing! Hats off to the chef and cooks. Unfortunately our initial encounter with the busy boy ( bushy hair and round glassesnot off to a great start. He was just cold and really wouldn’t pay us much attention kind of stuck up. But we wanted to stay based on other reviews so we didn’t pay much attention until we meet our waitress who we told to give us a few minutes to look at the menu that was completely in Italian. She got offended when we asked if there was a menu in English. We tried our best to translate on our own with limited cell service (which is why we asked for more time). She went off to another table took her time, fine but when I asked her to come back to our table she looked at me right in the face and then completely looked away and ignored me. When my husband informed her again as she walked past our table. She yelled I’ll be right there to our faces in s very pretentious way. We were left without a waiter aFor a few minutes until a gentleman came over and turned our experience around. Please avoid waitress with round black glasses slim tall light skinned. Even though the couple next to was treated fantastic except us. Hopefully management or the even can have a talk with that waitress.
MoreMade a reservation here in advance. Although there were tons of tables outside they told us they could not seat us out there. Seated us in the way back of the restaurant near the washrooms. Waited 15 minutes for someone to come to our table. After that experience we left. Heads up the menu is in Italian only so ensure you have translation prior to going.
MoreHearty dishes in a large space. Ambiance was just ok. Solid place for tuscan/florentine plates. The pear + ricotta filled pasta is great! That is probably the most exciting dish in this restaurant.
MoreEach time we dine here we come to regret it. When we ate here in May, our table outside was near a sewage vent. Not very appetizing! The food was somewhat forgettable and overpriced. We tried it again tonight and had a very subpar experience. Our waiter was unpleasant and not friendly, often shouting to other staff when it was my turn to order or speak. I found this offensive and rude. The crowds are almost always ALL tourists (mostly American), which we try to avoid. The meatballs I had were reminiscent of canned Spaghetti-Os. The only standout dish is the pear ravioli/faggotini in cream sauce, which are very good. However, Trattoria la Gratella north of the river does a much better job with this dish at a more reasonable price and with friendlier service. We’re in Firenze 4 weeks this time and won’t be dining at 4 Leoni again, despite the convenient location.
MoreVery small tables with uncomfortable seating. The table barely fit one salad and two main dishes. The menu is entirely in Italian which is quite absurd for a touristy town as Florence. Excluding that, not every ingredient was described in the menu. The dishes were fine but nothing special and not worth the price. We got water from the tap and it was also warm. All dishes arrived on time and fast. However, we waited 15 minutes for dessert with an empty table. The staff was very kind, everything was clean and well laid.
MoreRead about this restaurant in a ‘Timeout’ article and it doesn’t disappoint— incredible place— but book ahead, gets very busy with its prime location in one of Firenze’s beautiful old piazza’s.
MoreFood was incredible! Pear raviolis were not only interesting, but they worked so well! Service was great too.Busy place, and Id recommend getting a reservation if youre looking to eat here.Portions for the ravioli were on the small side, good for those not looking for too much food, but the flavors really makes you want to have more! The house wine was incredible too, and Im not much of a wine person. I can see why theyve lasted through Covid :)
MoreReally liked this place! A great experience, good food, quick and friendly staff. We were lucky getting a table because of a cancellation, would recommend making a reservation before going here.
MoreMade a booking though the hotel. Walked in and we’re seated near the toilets. We sat there for a while not being offered any water or anything and decided to leave. I’m sure the food is fantastic but there are many good places to eat in Florence and wanted some level of service
MoreFood was good but they did not bring all the food out at the same time and I had to wait for my eggplant parmigiana at least 10 minutes while everyone was eating. Didn’t want the bread but they charged us for it. They also charged a cover charge just for sitting down in the restaurant.
MoreOrdered the aperol spritz and carbonara and it was delicious. The staff was very friendly and laid back :)
MoreLovely dinner spot with tasty Tuscan food in the local district across the river. Definitely book an outside table. Reasonably priced food and wine, and a great selection of pasta dishes. The tiramisu was our favourite in Florence! It’s busy, so be sure to book!
MoreAmazing place with great outdoors and indoor dinning well known for having the best Pear pasta in Taleggio Sauce in Florence and their Roast Potatoes with Rosemary is top notch and so is their wine selection. In comparison with other restaurants their prices are fantastic and the food we got exceeded my expectations for the price we were a family of 4 adults and our total was under $110 with wine and tips included. The staff is also amazing and super friendly. We made a reservation and some how it didnt go through and they found us a table despite the fact they were fully booked. I will recommend everyone to make a reservation before going to this restaurant they are very well known and they get booked really fast. If you dont receive a confirmation email call them to verify.
MoreSo good! I still think about the PEAR STUFFED pasta everyday. Everyday. One day we ate dinner elsewhere - later at night I took a scooter just to go here and get another plate of the pear stuffed pasta. Unreal.Highly recommend. The rigatoni was also good. But the pear pasta stole it for me.
MoreIt took a while before the drinks could be ordered. Waiter told honestly they were unmanned. In the end had a very nice experience. Great food, friendly man who helped us further. A real place for the locals, a delicious Italian lunch. Greetings from the Netherlands, Amsterdam.
MoreA very good spot, bit crowded and loud for dinner rush, but we enjoyed the food very much. Tortellini mugellani and fiori fritti were my choices, plus tiramisu for dessert. So much sauce, so much whipped cream, so much wine! Wonderful.
MoreThey were incredible service and food. Going back through my travels and realized that this was the restaurant that gave my little brother a pillow when he took a nap at the table. Absolutely incredible experience. Good food and amazing waiters. Must visit place. This was however 3 years ago.
MoreCaveat: this is a review from a trip in 2019. I just rediscovered the name of the place, so I want to share my experience back then. This place was amazing. I still remember the meal 3 years later. The staff were friendly, to the point of bringing a pillow out for my 3yo son to sleep on because he was wiped from a day of touring. I dont remember all the dishes we got, but the standout was a huge Florentine steak that the family shared.
MoreThe house red wine was delicious, and we loved the house salad (avocado, pesto, pine nuts), grilled chicken, oven potatoes, house special pasta (stuffed with pear with light cream sauce), and zucchini flowers. We needed a taxi to get back to the train station and our waitress offered to call one for us. Beautiful ambiance in the midst of tiny streets and a little gelato shop.
MoreMolto bene !Very friendly staff and very good food. Make sure to reserve a table.
MoreOur friends had been here many times and were so excited to take us that it was hard to imagine it living up to the hype. It did!Off of a small street, its an unassuming restaurant… except its PACKED. Make a res!The food was so incredible all around but the pear pasta was out of this world… unreal. Maybe my favorite bite in florence.Service was friendly and casual— like going to your neighborhood spot. Loved it
MoreI dont like leaving bad reviews but I feel like on this occasion I have to. Food was avarage, quite small portions. Very expensive coperto - we had to pay extra €12 for sitting in average restaurant, moreover the bread they brought was served in not very presentable paper bag, but the worst thing was that the bread was old and dry, probably after previous customer because one slice was dirty of something red, probably a smudge of tomato sauce ... it put me off... On top of that the menu was only in Italian - considering the number of tourists in Florence they should include english version too... service was not friendly. In general I was not impressed with the experience, the worst restaurant i visited during my holiday in Italy so far.
MoreThis is a great little spot located close to the “real” neighborhoods. Ate both lunch & dinner on two different days. Highly recommend if you’re seeking a delicious meal that’s not a tourist trap.
MoreSooo good and authentic. No English menu and the food was out of this world. Also directly across from the best gelato spot in Florence.
MoreItaly is known for its excellent cuisine and 4 Leoni is recommended by Fodors travel guide and other blogs but great food doesnt guarantee you wont leave with a bad taste in your mouth because a dining experience is also about service. At the end of the day, we might not remember what we ate at a restaurant but we always remember how it made us feel. There were a few issues I can overlook but the main problem is we dont know why the waiters attitude changed when I asked for change, we wanted to tip him but we cant add tip to the machine in Italy, he took my bill without acknowledging me, it was odd, when he returned with the change and brought the machine for card payment, he again didnt say one word after payment and just left; when we walked past him to leave, he didnt acknowledge us, and his cold attitude made it known we were not welcomed. We didnt have an argument, I didnt express an issue with the food or his service even though it was painfully slow, he also gave us 3 bottles of water -2 stills, 1 sparking - even though we asked for only still, so we dont know what happened when he decided in his mind, we deserve less than warm hospitality. As a mixed couple, we cant help but wonder whenever were treated differently whether theres racist attitudes involved too.Management sets an example of the level of service its guests can expect to receive at any establishments. So back to what Im saying is Italy is known for its excellent food, therefore its not hard to find great food elsewhere, but this restaurant has some serious customer service issues. Look at the other 1 and 2 -star reviews here and you have an idea this is not an isolated incident
MoreFantastically warm welcome and homely cooked food. Greeted when we entered by the owner who asked his waiting staff to look after us and our bambino and we weren’t disappointed. Had some great Tuscan filled pasta and aubergine parmigiana. Will be back in a heart beat!
MoreWe came here to try the Florentine steak and it was delicious! If youre looking for authentic steak, excellent service and reasonable prices during your visit to Florence, this is your spot!
MoreCharming restaurant slightly off the beaten path. Staff were extremely friendly and helpful with recommendations. House red wine was great. The pear pasta was to die for. We also enjoyed the eggplant parmesan. All desserts were light and delicious- we tried the cheesecake, tiramisu, and apple cake. All three were amazing!
MoreAmazing location. Enjoy your stroll through the small but beautiful alleyways to this quaint piazza. The food was great and the service was good. The house specialty - pear and Roquefort tortellini pasta did not disappoint. Amazing combination. The prosciutto antipasto was amazing. Very enjoyable evening.
MoreFriendly, helpful service and absolutely delicious food! The salad with anchovies and burrata was an especially big hit and the fried artichokes were the best I’ve ever had. The polpo was just divine. There are heat lamps in the outdoor seating area. Make a reservation or arrive very early.
MoreLike everywhere in Florence you need a reservation here as well if you want to avoid a long waiting for a table. Service is fine and the dishes we got were good too. Came here for lunch.
MoreThe tagliatelle with artichoke (carciofiwas delicious. The wine was good. Sadly, €2 for a carafe of tap water and €3 cover charge for plain bread (not served with olive oil or vinegarwere disappointing.Menu was only in Italian. The waiter would explain it in English, in a bit cold manner. They did not have the typical Tuscan dish of tagliatelle with fungi porcini.
MoreExcellent, tasty regional food made with prime, fresh ingredients. Lovely settings and decor, friendly service. Top place where to dine in Florence. They offer filtered table sparkling water which is simply superb.
MoreGood food and service. The pasta was perfectly cooked as well as our main courses. Great flavors overall.
MoreStumbled upon this place in a rain storm. Generously sized negroni and spritz. Bread was fresh and olive oil was delicious.
MoreThe fiocchetti was by far the best dish on our entire Italy trip. Y’all, it’s so good. Waitstaff was amazing, too. Great place for dinner!
MoreCozy place and delicious food. Really surprising flavours those fioccetto di pera and the cheese cake. Nice experience with service. Highly recommended
MoreWe loved our lunch. We ordered 1 pear fiocchetti, it was delicious but be warned it is sweet. It’s almost a dessert. The pici and tortelli mugellani were all delicious and thoroughly enjoyed. The menu is only in Italian, read it online beforehand to help you decide if you have trouble reading Italian menus.
MoreWelcoming and friendly staff!Make sure to book a table !We had burrata with ham as appetizer. Then we chose the Fiorentina meat which was excellent and so well cooked !To finish with, we had Tiramisu which was also exquisite. One good restaurant to do in Firenze !
MoreWe had heard about 4 Leoni and their unique pear & ricotta fiocchi so we had to try it.We are so glad that we did. It may seem like a strange combination, but the pear & ricotta fiocchi were amazing and the rest of the food was delicious as well!We really liked the location of the restaurant too, because it was a little quieter and less hectic than other parts of Florence (even though its only a street or two over from the busy areas). This was nice because we felt less rushed and more relaxed and could enjoy our meal and conversation.I would absolutely recommend this restaurant to anyone in Florence. Its a must visit!
