2 Booth St, Manchester M2 4AT, Manchester
Warm, convivial outpost serving hearty British comfort cuisine plus beer, wine & cocktails.
Came here during the 50% discount off food bill on a weekday evening. I ordered Three Ricers Battered Haddock which came with real chips and tortilla. It tasted great and was of huge portion. The ambience was good. However, the waiters seemed to be less patient compared to other restaurants I’ve been.
Generally a nice atmosphere and lovely room , they do traditional English fayre and can be quite heavy.Had the fish and chips and my partner had the pie , i was rather disappointed however, the fish was poorly fillited with more bones in it than should be served to a customer and the chips were too thick which were hard .
I went into 1761 with my mum as a pre Xmas treat we went in and had lunch from booking a table on the phone to walking in the staff were very attentive and gave us excellent customer service and made us feel warm and welcome. We sat at our table and ordered our lunch the flat iron steak sandwich was amazing and deffo a must for anyone to try. We then had the best sticky toffee pudding ive ever tasted. After lunch I asked the waiter could we go down to Lillys bar and have some drinks to which he smiled and showed us the way. When we got down stairs we was given the option of were we wanted to sit and a waiter came to take our order and we had cocktail WOW they were so nice and made with proper alcohol not cheap stuff. We then asked for the bill and left but i will deffo be going back soon the whole exsperiance was second to none thank you 1761 for helping me make a special day for me and my mum Amazing place
A party of 10 booked to do the bottomless brunch at Lily’s bar. This was booked in June 2019 and a deposit paid. On the day of visit (10 August 2019we found that the venue was closed. no prior warning that the venue would be closing and no communication about refunding the deposit. Contacted the restaurant through Facebook, Instagram and Twitter. No response. Even tried to contact the owner via all social media platform for the Victoria Lounge in Glossop but no response from them
Staff was nice but way over priced. I asked for a caesar salad that it was £17 I thought it was going to be really good. What a surprised it was salad leaves from a bag (same that you can buy in the supermarket for £1some pieces of grilled chicken and ceasar salad sauce from a tub... for £17???? It did not have any parmesan cheese, croutons or anchovies. For that price I was expecting a very fresh and tasty salad, at least it should have all the ingredients for that price. It was horrible. I do not recommend this place.
My friend and I were very disappointed with our lunch at 1761 on Wednesday. We had been informed, by our pleasant waitress, that there was a limited menu which was not a problem to us. However when my char-grilled strips of fillet steak salad arrived it was not char-grilled nor was it fillet steak. There were a few tiny shreds of dry, overcooked, very chewy beef on top of my salad. My friend had chosen butternut squash risotto which, if made properly, should be delicious & creamy but was instead watery & tasteless. We informed our waitress who said she’d let the chef know! Thanks but that wasn’t much help to us who had to eat it. Lovely surroundings but dreadful food - we would never go back - there’s too much choice & quality in Manchester.
Went into 1761 for a drink the staff so attentive and had a really nice time only went for one ended up staying as found out a drag DJ was downstairs every Friday night the menu looked amazing so deffo be back to try had a fab night even sabrina on the door was lovely had a nice convo with her aswell highly recommend such a laugh thank you 1761 your a diamond in the rough
Very lovely looking restaurant with an interesting menu. The meals we had were -50% cheaper and beautiful 2for £10 coctails. Friendly staff and great location. Would definitely come back.
Good food, great decor and lovely staff
We had a great meal last night. It was our anniversary and having told them prior, we had a bottle of presseco waiting for us which was a really nice gesture. It is well worth a visit, and we will be going again for sure.
Really nice place and staff. The food, however, could be much better. I ordered a mushroom pie, the waiting time was quite long and the pastry was still very undercooked. Overall taste of the food was not great either. Very disappointed. Wont be coming again.
Absolutely fantastic food, and 50% off food prices was brilliant too. Reccomend the Manc Chips!
Clearly lots of tables available, but my family were turned down. I could tell from the way the guy at the front desk looked at us, that we were not welcome there. We were in casual clothing - not overly smart, but not scruffy. We are Liverpudlian so obviously they thought we were "scum". ELITIST.
Only went once for lunch so cant review honestly for evening meals. However, wow. Prices are phenomenally good on the lunch offer and the food is fantastic. We go every now and again on lunch breaks, its a doable thing in an hour and well worth it!
Nice decor, friendly staff. Service not the fastest. Food ok. Crust on pie took a bit getting through! But tasty and good portions.
Me and my partner love it here. The staff are so friendly and the food is very hearty British food. Large portions, value for money.
This was an excellent night out in a relaxed and calm atmosphere. The restaurant was clean and presentable. The staff were all polite, well dressed and presentable. The staff were prompt with the food and checking of any additional drinks were required. There are sometimes offers available towards your meal. I would certainly visit 1761 again and highly recommend a visit here to anyone.
The food is really good, especially for Sunday lunch. Ive been a couple of times and really enjoyed the food, it is quite pricey though.
Great place food and drink offers - had a fab afternoon
Visited towards the end of January with a party of 14. 1761 team looked after us exceptionally well and they have a 50% discount off food until the end of March which means fantastic value for money. Thanks guys!
Went to 1761 after work this week following recommendation from a friend. The service was quick but the food quality was really poor! Ordered the 2 steak burger and my friend had the ribs. The burger arrived and it was 2 grey looking meat patties you would get in a box in a supermarket. Manager did come over to apologise and did mention they were halal, but that doesnt quantify quality. Anyway...Food went back and i chose the ribs as replacement as they looked good. However they were chewey, bad quality cuts and even worse was the Smash mash potatoe. I had one rib.Probably wont go back.Service is good though and employees friendly.
Pretty good food with big portion sizes. Limited choice especially desserts, but Id go back. Good value in the 50% off deal for Jan and Feb
Went on a recommendation from a friend as we were craving Sunday Roast. Lots of roast options and veggie and vegan options too. Food was tasty and the service was good and attentive too.Thank you
Had a delicious steak and ale pie. Service was a little bit slow. Live music was good.
Lovely meal, and the staff were very attentive. We went on a Sunday when they had a gospel choir singing live; it really set an atmosphere however it was a little loud and difficult to talk in points; if I had to pick a niggle that would be it.
Great food and wine at very reasonable prices. Friendly accommodating staff. Not a great selection of beers.
When we visit a city I like to try and find an independent restaurant rather than a generic chain I can eat in anywhere. This proved to be a gem. We had a lovely meal here, the food was superb and the waiter was friendly and attentive. I think our biggest disappointment is that we live in Nottingham and this isn’t closer!
Fabulous. First visit, with a friend who had been before. Lovely food, no pressure from staff, excellent food. Eager to return.
Service good. Staff friendly. Food excellent. However was disappointed at the number of items shown on the menu that they had run out off. Chicken, cheese and onion pie, halloumi at 7.30 on a Friday night.
Ive been a few times now and Iza has always been so lovely and welcoming! This time I came there was live music to compliment the great food and amazing service! Ill be back soon 😉
Had Sunday roast as a group.Good portion size and fixed price menu. However, some of the meat was extremely fatty and barely edible. Service very mixed - server was very personable but we were ushered out by someone banging on the window rather than being asked politely - quite odd. Decor feels dated. Its all very average and that doesnt cut it in Manchester anymore.
Great value for a midweek meal. A straightforward but very well cooked menu, and very good service
Service was awesome. Went for Sunday dinner. £15 a head with a bottle of wine for every two ordered. Tasted great.
We had an odd experience here. We had one of the mixed platters as a starter which was very good, so our hopes were high. Unfortunately, it went down hill from there. After waiting 45+ minutes for the main, we were told the chef had burnt our food, and there were no more of what we ordered- chicken pie- left so we had to choose an alternative. We therefore had a cheese and onion pie which I would describe as very average. Gravy and incidentals (mash, chips, mushy peasthe same. Afterwards we ordered dessert however this was also forgotten about and we waited another 40 minutes or so until someone realised. My cheesecake was good, but my friend mentioned her brownie had a slightly burnt taste to it. To be fair, after all our problems, the staff comped the main and desserts without us even asking. I can see that this place could be really good, and the concept is fab, however it seems like its having a few teething problems, as it is not long open. Im not sure whether I would return or not, given our experience. On the plus side, the cocktails were very good.
amazing place! the food was excellent! really reasonably priced anyway but there was 50% off too which was excellent. service was great everyone was really helpful and friendly, even the manager made the effort to come over and ask how everything was. really impressed already booked to go again!
I love this place. Very friendly staff, good food, excellent value Sunday lunch, with free wine. Fish tank in Lilys Bar downstairs is fabulous.
Really nice looking place with great service. It is at a drop from the town hall and easily accessible. The service was amiable, prompt and corteous. 4 starts out of 5 as the fillet reached me cold. I will certainly return as I was advised that the pies are their speciality.
We reserved a table but when we got here, there was no table for us and we got to wait for another hour for food. Also, I needed to remind them three times for my sauce.
Very slow service - took over 2 hours for a two course meal for one. When the food did turn up, it was warm at best and I had to remind them to bring one of the sides. Temperature aside though, the food was reasonably nice (if nothing special). They did at least realise that the service had been sub-par and took some items off the bill.
Had an excellent goat cheese main, with a very tasty wine sauce ! Service a bit slow but skilled and agreeable. My only regret is that the starter (wild boarwas more large chunks of mushrooms than boar (tasty but if I am not fond of mushroom pieces and I wasnt expecting that from the name of the dish).
We went to eat on a Friday evening and the restaurant was completely empty, that shouldve been a red flag. The food was bland and our sides were cold. The desert menu contained only three unappetizing choices, nevertheless we ordered a crumble only to be told it was unavailable after we ordered it. Our waiter, who was quite professional, made it clear that he was as unimpressed with the food as we were. 1761 does deserve some marks for nice service and a comfortable (and cleandining room, nevertheless I will not be returning.
Had an amazing time, food was great , decor great, & service was great. Danny was brilliant from start to finish - superb service. Would defo recommend 1761 and will be going back very soon.
Great time a few weeks ago. Good veggie selection. Worth checking out
The food was good and very well presented despite the portions are really small. The staff was very pleasant and quite sophisticated...the decoration is a bit old fashion but maybe is conected with its history!
Great decor, friendly staff. 1761 club sandwich, seen below was outstanding!
Came here for dinner with my partner and it was incredible. We were lucky to have been sat on a large round table which was beautifully made. The service was great too, and our waiter always had a big smile on his face. He had a great personality and advised us everything about the menu and the restaurant. For that alone we will be back. The food itself was beautifully made, paying homage to Manchester along with the cocktail list. We had Corn Beef Hash and a Chicken Pie for our mains - very tasty. We had a bottle of Malbec to go with our food too which went down a treat.
This place is a hidden gem! We ate here Saturday 27th and cant speak highly enough. We had cocktails at the bar first which were perfect then we had Danny, our waiter for the night who was simply wonderful, he talked us through the menus and recommendations. The food was absolutely outstanding, we had the sea salt and vinegar fried cockles, pork scratchings, followed by mushrooms on toast (seriously amazingthen my hubby had the corned beef hash while I had the t bone followed by Manchester tart. Amazing food and wonderful atmosphere! Cant wait to go back.
Great restaurant, lovely atmosphere. Great, attentive and friendly staff. Delicious corned beef hash and delicious house red. Recommend the beef dripping chips
Only open 6 weeks, great service and decor. Food was top notch, quality over quantity. Will definitely be going back in the future
Our starters were fantastic. Salt cod scotch egg and baked haddock. Really simple but intense flavours on the plate. Mains were fairly average, lamb shank and beef ribs. There may have been better options on the menu. Tender stem broccoli was a great side choice. Unfortunately they didnt have oysters or mussels when we went as their supper couldnt get them with the bad weather, but Id definitely go back when theyre on and give them a go. The service was top notch from the moment we walked in to when we left. Still fairly new place so will be interested to go back in a few months and see how its going.
