MoreThe Botataung Kyaik De Att Pagoda is a famous pagoda located in downtown Yangon, Myanmar, near the Yangon river. One can actually walk inside the pagoda and watch a nice collection of historical findings.Gold-foiled plated walls, with rare and precious contributions from people on display. Ever seen a strand of the Buddha’s hair? Me neither until I visited this pagoda. The vault of the pagoda was disturbed and rather than resealing it, this site was converted into a pseudo museum as well as place of worship. Very pretty and there’s even a couple of turtle ponds as part of the complex

They pagoda has Buddhas hair and body relic kept in the ornamented cascade. The history is written in english which is very rare in other pagodas of Myanmar. It has the huge bronze buddha statue containing the hair relic of Buddha.Foreigners have to buy tickets there for 6000 kyat but believe me its worth.
MoreOne of the things to see in Yangon, somewhat crowded, 6000 kyat entry. Not as spectacular as Shwedagon Pagoda but worthwhile trip to see. There was also turtles swimming and eating on the platforms.
MoreNot far from the River View. Many Myanmar people come here to make wishes. The sit down facing the narrow ended space and wish! Many interesting collections can be seen. Good place to learn!

MoreThe Botahtaung Pagoda. It is situated by the side of Yangon River and one of the most famous pagodas in Yangon. It was built in King Okkalapa reign —almost the same time of building The Shwedagon Pagoda— over 2600 years ago. Mon and Myanmar Kings maintained and repaired along the history. But in 1943, during the second world war, this ancient pagoda was completely destroyed by a bomb. After the war it was rebuilt in very similar style to the old one. When I was young, I have been there and I saw that The Botahtaung Pagoda is hollow type and we can walk through it. We amused walking in the mirrored maze inside the pagoda and saw many ancient relics, artefacts, including small silver and gold Buddha images keeping in the glass showcases. Now it is closed inside the pagoda ( 2 nd of March 2019for renovation purpose and we cannot get a chance to go inside over about 15 feet. The pagoda was covered by mats and scaffolding. In the pagoda compound, we saw a huge bronze Buddha image represent to wisdom & awakening and Thailand souvenir shop as the new things.Botahtaung jetty is close to the pagoda and there we can have the Yangon River view and sit on a bench along the river bank.
MoreThis pagoda have Buddha hair. So more people visiting this pagoda. This is near in Yangon river.
MoreIts ok, not worth the money. Didnt help that it was covered in scaffolding and mats so couldnt see the gold.
MoreMost people are visited beacause the pagoda have hair of lord Buddha .
Beautiful pagoda next to the Yangon river. It is said to have been constructed to house Buddhas hair relic when it first arrived in Myanmar. This is also the only pagoda with a hollow interior. Hence it can be entered to appreciated the beautiful golden carvings inside.

MoreVery interesting pagoda. At nigh very nice. For foreigners you should buy ticket, around 6000 kya. Local people will be free. After you buy ticket they will stick sticker on you shirt before you go inside. Your shoe and sock leaves outside, it safe. Go inside you will see Buddhist hair inside class boltle. You can go around and see more Buddhier as well! You should be go here when you visit Yangon.
MoreOne of the 3 "main" pagodas of the city, this one is unique because you can actually go inside of it. Theres usually groups of people reading/studying Buddhist texts inside, and its nice to see some of the symbolism displayed throughout it.
MoreNow in September 2018, the temple is under renovation also the Pagoda. Even the maintenance works is in progress, it is amazing that the scaffold is made from all bamboos. I heard that the bamboo scaffolding is done to Shwedagon as well which is once in five years. Botataung is very famous among Thai people. No shorts or pants are allowed but you can borrow ‘Sarong’ at the tourist office. Like other temples no shoes and socks allowed to wear.
MoreWhen I revisit this pagoda on April 2018, it was under renovation and could not enter all area inside pagoda. Administration fee for foreigners is K6,000. I am happy to donate for good renovation and expect renewal to be appears soon.

MoreAmazing, even though this place was under renovation while I visited but I feel that how important of this pagoda to Myanmar people. Have a lot of people came here for praying and pay the respect to the Buddha ‘s hair that keep inside the pagoda. You allowed to came inside the pagoda too, the wall made from gold plate . You’ll see people praying here because this place make you feel closely to the Buddha . Outside the Pagoda have Golden Buddha statue in the Main hall on the right , this statue used to be in the Mandalay Palace . And in the small hall on the left is Nat Bo Bo Gyi ( the guardian spiritthat I saw people come for praying for a wish they believe that the spirit will make a wish come true.
MoreCompletely rebuild from 1948-1953 after being destroyed in 1943 during a bombing attack it’s a very impressive place with lots of history
More6,000 kyat entrance fee for foreigners at the time I went - included free Tea-mix!
MoreOne of the most famous historic pagoda in Myanmar with great ancient architecture can be seen. Shine in day and bright in night as different nice views. A good place to develop concentration, esp in early morning and at night, basing on pure morality. This is also a nice place to focus on the recollection of The Buddha such as total free from defilements and teaching pupils to free from defilements, to get powerful concentration. After homage to The Buddha, we can do walking exercise near the pagoda along the river bank.
MoreInteresting temple. 6000kyat pp.You can see in the influence from Indian buddisum.Funny to see the attractions for donations.Unfortunately the turtle ponds were grotty and being cleaned out while we were here.
