ตลาดน้ำอโยธยา - Floating market in Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya, Thailand
ตลาดน้ำอโยธยา in Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya
Description
Privilege
Changed a lot compared to 5 years ago.Not too crowded.A new section with elephant riding next to it.
MoreNot sure why this place is so highly reviewed. Not even a proper floating market, it’s just shops where they charge 200 Baht per person for entry?!So not worth it. The ticket says it includes a boat ride but you have to wait for 20 minutes for it to come when you can just walk round the whole thing anyway in 2 minutes. Please don’t go here if you are a tourist or backpacker. We wish we didn’t.
MoreWe were there on a Monday. Nearly no people there, also not much to see, no boats with fruits etc... Totally not worth the 200 THB per person. The food on was good anyway.
MoreThe locals are very nice but the market is not an authentic one, I have no idea why entrance fee, since it is a floating shopping area for tourists.Maybe for 3 minutes boating which we didnt want? But Im sure many would love it.
MoreDelicious and cheap food. Cool experience to see a floating market. Came on a week day and it was not crowded.
MoreMore like a tourist area, not much floating market but a big pond with shops selling a little over price stuffs to tourist. Best is the grill prawns, 1kg for 390bth. Freshly grilled.
MoreNo fee for entrance but have to pay for embarking on the boat around the market (you can also walk aroundand it s 30 but for Thai people, 200 but foreigners. The parking is inside(free parkingbut someone will try to make you park in front and pay 40 bht. There are a lot of traditional things and Thai street foods. If you are looking for gifts from Thailand you can buy them from there also.
MoreGave 3 stars because most of the shops were closed, they charged me 200 baht just to walk it even though I was with my wife and two freinds who are Thai! The boat noodle soup was good but the portions are really small and are 15 baht each. I am not sure Id go back. Maybe to see the elephants because I like to support them.
MoreScam, scam, scam.We paid 200 THB for the market, the boat and the show.So no market, no show and no boat.Shops closed, boat not working and show cancelled due to a soft rain.SCAM
MoreWent there in March 2022, beautiful, plenty of things to see and you can go on the complimentary traditional boat ride around the waters (pond?). Went there again in Jul 2022, not a weekend, the place looked rather dead. Most shops were closed. Restaurants staff are chasing you to eat at their place. Entrance is 200baht per foreigner adult. But there are actually other entrances not gated. And because were going to spend money in there anyway, it feels too much to pay entrance second time. There is another market opposite with more sestaurants offering marijuana infused dishes and souvenirs. Theres also an elephant ride service, which we are not very fond of. Theres no entrance fee for this part of the market.
MoreAvoid, foreigners have to pay 200 Baht entrance fee and market prices and facilities are very poor. There are far better floating markets that dont charge foreigners an entrance fee and prices are much cheaper.
MoreThere were many shop closed due to COVID-19But theres some activity there for you to do
MoreTotal scam! Non-Thai citizens pay 200 Thb to visit what is supposed to be a floating market; in fact, it is a 100% "Disneyland" tourist trap built on a small artificial water surface since there is not even a river... No need to waste your time and money!
MoreI love to invite to all the tourist to come visit here. Its very enjoyable place to to come. So many good food to eat. A lot of things to shop
MoreTourist trap, doesnt worth to go, look at other people pictures and realize that.Even if you have Thai work permit (which basically means that you are living and working in Thailandno changes. As someone wrote here : avoid avoid avoid.Or only if you are tourist who has little time in TH go, they love you 🙏😅
MoreCome here first time and never comeback again (until improved all bad point to be betterGood point is Atmosphere and Special show.***Parking,Restroom,Restaurant and Shops = all is bad experienced.
MoreSome shops are closed. Its a small floating market with an entrance fee. Amphawa floating market would be better.
MoreWas really nice, you can take a boat and then walk through the floating market, there are a lot of local shops with nice products. I bought a Thailand t-shirt that looks awesome. And I would have bought more t-shirts if I had more cash at the moment...
MoreThis place was once a great tourist spot. Its now in great disrepair. The wooden boards that make up the walkway are dangerously old and/or in the process of breaking. The water is covered in algae and not as clear as it used to be. Im sure some of this can be attributed to the lack of tourist money coming in throughout COVID. I can only surmise that the overall condition there lacks any local system where the vendors that were thriving on those tourist monies for a generation ever gave back to ensure proper upkeep. Even the local historical sites are falling into disrepair with the jungle plants taking them back. Its all just very sad and I cannot recommend visiting here while its like this.Add also that they offer elephant rides, which is well known to be a function of abuse. I cant say if they abuse their elephants at this particular area, but it should not be supported with how widely reported the links are between elephant riding and elephant abuse.
MoreOn weekends it would be lively and full open. But also not bad for weekdays. Some shops open. No queues for taking boats, fare 30 baht for adults, take around 10 min around the area.
MoreUsed to be a good place to visit after covid19 lock down many shops are still closed.
MoreOn entrance foreigner getting scammed. Be aware. For 2 minutes of boat ride and some non existent performance they are charging 200 baht per person. Just ignore that counter and enter and walk in. Nothing much special about the place. No good food or shopping experience
MoreForeigners are charged 200 baht for access to a dead market, while Thai are free, I can understand discrimination in pricing for a national park or national heritage, but why for a market, do they not want to sell things? And overpriced tacky souveniers. Avoid avoid avoid. There are many other real floating markets.
MoreThis is one of the iconic places in Ayutthaya city, Thailand. To enter this Ayutthaya floating market, theres difference that you need to notice. For Thai people its free as a market usually. For foreigners you need to pay about 200 baht. You can enjoy the place , see the performance, and also use the boat with a guide.Otherwise, theres another option to see the market in front of the floating market which provides local foods, and iconic staff about Ayutthaya such as clothes, and etc.Another option, you can see the elephant and fish from Amazon. If youre interested to ride elephant, you need to pay and you can ride the elephant to go around one of the temple for one round. This place is very hot, so bringing an umbrella is suggested haha.
MoreDont go there. They charge 200 Baht for nothing. 90% of the market is closed. Its really spooky...
MoreThis i just a sad place. Its not a real market. Its made for tourists. No natural or public used river. With an expensive boat or by walk you can go trough a smal course. Corona made this place additional sad. Most shops are closed. The last open shops feel big pressure because of the missing people. Not a single shop was open for purchase from boat. We didnt enjoy it, we feel just with the pain of the shop owners...
MoreChill concept! Good place to eat and enjoy family time.I dont appreciate the elephant treatment though.
MoreHalf the market is closed but they are still charging full price without any exceptions. We took a boat ride (dont botherand it was super loud and was nothing special. We were rather disappointed, typical tourists trap with only half the usual appeal
MoreOne of great floating markets in Ayutthaya where there are lots of shop stalls and places to eat and buy souvenirs.
MoreI was not so impressed with this market though it was well laid out. As a foreigner, I had to shell out money just to enter the market which seems counter intuitive to the fact that I am going in there to actually spend money. They had thrown in a boat ride with the entry which, I would have paid happily if I wanted to take one. Anyways, the market was not so busy with many units closed and food also was not so exciting. I was expecting more from this place.
MoreBeen there two times but was not charged the famed 200THB farang entrance fee. Not exactly a real floating market but quite good overall experience. Several shops selling Thai souvenirs and several options for Thai snacks. The rates were higher than markets like Chatuchak but similar to other regular tourist markets. Spent around 2 hours, got few unique T Shirts and some souvenirs. Snacks were amazing though few options for vegetarians. Tried some local fruits like small mangoes which had very unique and pleasant flavour
MoreNothing much to see inside just clothes and souvenir. Free entrance for Thai but not foreigners (200 bht/person). Wont support this system!
MoreGood place with wide variety of local goods ranging from food, traditional Thai snacks, clothes, to souvenirs. Price of good might be a little bit expensive than some other places. There were also an elephant village and an ancient pagoda there where you can have activities.
MoreFloating Market is a place that I think should be visited when you travel to Thailand. In this place we can find various types of traditional Thai food. Not only that, you can also tour this tour using a traditional boat. Feed fish and see beautiful panoramas from various angles. Here you can also ride a very large elephant. Extraordinary..😍
MoreThe place was quite nice but too touristy. I think that it was for tourists only. It stimulated old floating market of Ayutthaya which was very interesting to see. The shop owners worn traditional clothes of Thailand and they sold many things from souvenirs to traditional food of Thailand. We tried some food there and they were tasty but quite expensive.
MoreNot that special for a floating market. Charges foreigners 200 baht each for a 10-minute boat ride and mediocre war show. There are stalls selling food, drinks, souvenirs, clothings, snacks, accessories, etc. Elephant rides are available outside but doesnt look interesting
MoreDo not expect an authentic floating market! This was obviously made as a tourist attraction but I didnt mind. Its beautifully done! Its a nice break from the rows and rows of temples after theyve all been looking the same. You pay THB 200 to enter, but the fee comes with a boat ride and a cultural show on the river. The area is full of shops for souvenirs and restaurants serving traditional and trendy Thai food. Overall an awesome experience!
MoreNot bad at all! Can get good deals, but negotiation is key! Sometimes they might fool tourists. The shows are interesting! Food is not that great though.
MoreNice experience, you will enjoy boat journey for 10 minutes, see traditional food( if you like thai food☹☹. There are also elephants. You can buy traditional clothes mush cheap than Bangkok. Take care, canal full of fish and alligators.
MoreA great place to spend a good 1-2 hrs there and they have a show to watch. 200baht to get in, including electric boat the tour around the whole Floating Market and the show is inclusive. Its all spoken in Thai but quite fun to watch. A lot of food in there, so you can eat inside there instead of outside of the floating Market.
MoreNice place to shop for traditional items and also relish upon the native dishes and delicacies of Thailand. You can even enjoy the boat ride and can do the shopping from the boat itself as the shops are at the banks of the river but have a mask with you if strong smell causes uneasiness to you, as the aroma of the Thai food can be bit discomforting if not used to it.
MoreIt was very pleasant... I didnt expect that itll be too colorful here... I mean, i see a lot of colors... They have some martial arts exhibition at noon... And lots and lots of things... Try the pineapple chicken fried rice... Its really delicious!
MoreThis is a bit of a drive from the city of Bangkok to see the floating market. We arrived around noon time and had some lunch from the floating boats selling sea food. Then we hired a boat which took us to the temple covered by tree roots. There are lots of shops and places to buy souvenirs and local food snacks. When we left, it was super crowded. It was cool; but I wouldnt say it was a must do from other places we visited in Bangkok.
MoreGood food around the market but if you are a foreigner please prepare to pay for the entrance fee 200 baht per person. But Thai people just entrance for free. I know it sound ridiculous but this is how they set up. So, if you don’t want to pay for 200 baht just for the entrance. Please do not come here. You still have some where else to have lunch.
MoreThe market offers no amazing discounts or overall, no items (such as souvenirsyou cant get elsewhere. Finding someone willing to bargain is laborious. With that being said, the best part of the market was the "floating" entertainment of the boat ride and the floating food vendors. The foods varied and some were prepped on the water in front of you and others offered fresh fruit. I would recommend paying more to go on a "private" boat.
More40 minutes drive from Bangkok, it is better to go there either by private car or taxi. There is parking facilities on arrival. The entrance price into the floating market is 200 baht for foreigner and free for Thai. The access to the boat is comprise into the price. Inside several shop mainly for tourist souvenir and food stall serving Thai cuisine. Price is still reasonable. Ideal for an afternoon trip.
MoreThis place was pretty awesome! Hopefully you can appreciate the history of the area and the architecture of the old buildings. This area was two part: floating market in one place and UNESCO World Heritage Site in the other. The floating market costs some baht to get into (not muchbut once youre in there are several shops and places to eat. Definitely plan on spending a couple hours here. The UNESCO World Heritage Site was free to go to but we did have to pay for parking (฿10 I think). But once youre there you can walk around the old courtyard. Unfortunately (but understandablyyou cannot go into the historic buildings.
MoreThis was a great experience! Id read reviews of it being inauthentic and overpriced. It is 200 baht for foreigner entry (though I must admit, I got in free because Im teaching in Thailand), but looking back, Id totally pay it. We didnt take the boat ride immediately, instead walking around first. Definitely go when you are hungry! There are great snacks that are hard to find elsewhere and samples as well! There are the standard tourist clothes, but also stores for less typical clothing and goods. I didnt think they were unreasonably priced (Id also read reviews about them being 3 to 4 times more expensive than they should be, but I actually found some items for as cheap anywhere Ive seen in Thailand). I didnt think as highly of the meal options, and if I were to do it again, I probably would stick to snack foods. We finished off the market with the boat tour. It took about 10 minutes, and it was very enjoyable. They dont really have a "program" on the boat, so its just for seeing the sights.Lovely market and lovely snacks! Go when your hungry and spend a few hours enjoying the shade and breeze. It is expensive, but take your time and its worth it.
MoreLove this small floating market. It has a lot of characteristic and not too crowd it. It was definitely a relaxing stroll. They have eating places n cheap price on gifts too. Would like to visit this place again if i could.
MoreAll in one Thailand experience includes the History of Thailand, cultural heritage and lots of culinary choices in the surrounding area. I am really enjoying to visit there because of few hours you can look around and after can enjoy different original historical sites not to far from the floating market.
