'O Ver Borough - Italian Restaurant - Italian restaurant in London, United Kingdom
Great food, great service and lovely atmosphere. We will be back!
Amazing parmigiana, awesome wines, beautiful decoration, pizzas from another planet...But above all, people working here make you feel welcome from minute 1, they bring the Mediterranean warmth that is so hard to find sometimes in this city...Cant recommend enough! Grazie...
Its good, but the meals are a bit small, especially the risotto. If youre hungry, order two dishes or at least one dessert to complement. The coke bottle is also very small, only 200ml. The risotto came without salt, but thats normal in London, they dont put salt in the food. The pizza is wonderful. I will definitely come back for the pizza. :)
Rally good Italian food. Staff are knowledgeable and friendly. Wine was good. We had the German white. Sat outside as no seats inside. Not bad. Still warm
Nah. There’s way better and cheaper Italian around. It was 223£ for 4 people and we didnt even have starters or a bottle of wine. Expensive pasta and doughy pizza (although this may be Napolitan style). I would not go there again. Plus they took my card details for a 4 people booking.
Brilliant food and really attentive staff. The waiter brought my pizza out before my friend’s risotto was ready and asked if we were sharing. My friend said no so he asked to take away my pizza to serve me a fresh one as soon as my friend’s dish was also ready. Really appreciate the thoughtfulness.
If you like eating your food in a leisurely way then this is a no go for you. If on the other hand you like feeling that you are merely one unit to be processed through the money making machine then book away.To explain... While the food was good, Over has an awful policy regarding how long diners are allowed to have their table. This is because Over want to turn their tables round as many times as possible per night and make as much money as they can by doing that.We had a 2 hour table slot - from 6.00-8.00 PM - but what this policy does is to put diners under pressure of time. Instead of just relaxing and enjoying the food and each others company. we watch the clock.Compounding this was the constant reminding by staff that we had to give the table back as there are other people waiting. Also this policy meant that we were not offered other courses like pudding or end of meal drinks. Its very un-Italian really. As a result of this policy - on that puts money not people first - we felt more like economic units being processed rather than valued customers. A shame for us and for the restaurant as unless this policy changes we wont go back.
Visited on a Sunday afternoon in early October. Nice place overall. Quite an attractive setting. The food was decent on the whole but not exceptional. The burrata starter was tasty if a bit dear at £16 - if the cheese and tomatoes were particularly special, my novice palate couldn’t detect it. My wife enjoyed her seafood pasta. One of the pizzas we ordered, a marinara, was seriously undercooked (portions were raw doughso the restaurant replaced that pizza without question. My pizza, a Margherita, was fine, big on the dough side of things, with fresh and natural-tasting tomatoes, and very mild mozzarella. Overall, the flavours of the pizza were really quite understated - too understated for my liking. I saw this place on a top 100 pizzas in the world list (Robb Reportbut frankly it wouldn’t even rank in my top 10 for London. The service was friendly and mostly efficient. Overall, we had a nice lunch here.
The pizza dough is delicious, service is very good and either the restaurant itself and the bathroom were clean.
Excellent pizza, great service and ambiance, quite pricy
Good service. Service charge.Ambience is good.Reasonable vegetarian options.Pizza, quality toppings, plentiful.Well made light and fluffy Pizza.
Absolutely delicious food, excellent service and really great atmosphere. We took fish & pasta of the day it was cooked to perfection.
Had dinner and it was very good! Proper Italian restaurant, the pasta of the day (seafood scialatelliwas amazing and the tiramisu out of this world! Highly recommended!
The pizza was good, but slightly overpriced for what it is. 18£ for pizza is quite steep even for Borough. The food was great though and service was good too. Very twilight, romantic environment.
Don’t apply to work here!As a former employee at O ver as a Bar back/bartender, I can tell you that the way they run things are shady:1They won’t make you sign a contract straight way, strange right?2Once they’ve hired you they expect you to work overtime and if that doesn’t work for you then you’re basically useless to them3At any moments notice they will drop you. On the day I was meant to work I was told that I wouldn’t need to come in today because “we no longer need you” and “you don’t fit our profile” something that doesn’t make any sense especially after having had a “successful” job interview and trial shift. Also, a 1 week notice is standard/minimum period to let someone know about their employment. If they had any issue with my work this should’ve been discussed and communicated to me during my time there. Lack of communication.4You’ll be underpaid. The rate that was agreed was £11 per hour and somehow out of the 5 days I worked for the restaurant, I was only paid for 3 days. I had to chase up this payment. To finish off I was told to come and collect what was owed to me at the restaurant. The money (cashwas in an envelope and was stapled to it. Really petty :)Food is alright, pretty expensive though ✌🏽
The food is just average and overpriced. That is alright. But, the rude service attitude of some waiters is not tolerable. Make us feel very uncomfortable - a bad experience. Definitely not recommend.
Agreed with other comments on racial discrimination. The lady was rude and unwilling to explain the food to someone who is unfamiliar with Italian food. They even made a face to their colleagues after explaining to us, thinking we didn’t see. BUT I saw it and I felt very uncomfortable. After we finished and paid the bill, the lady unwillingly said thank you even without looking at me. Overall very unpleasant experience.
We had an early booking at 6pm. Staff were enthusiastic, although inexperienced (in no way a criticism in these challenging times). Food was tasty and good sized portions. A pleasant meal and experience. More affordable wine options would be appreciated. Would recommend. Great location.
delicious food, friendly staff, good pizza and the chilli oil is to die for
Good: Friendly service; Good pizza; reasonable prices. Thanks.
This is definitely one of the best Italian restaurants in London, the food is amazing and properly authentic Italian, its quite reasonably priced (2 people, 3 courses, lots of wine £150), its the best you will ever taste. Staff are super pleasant and attentive, nothing is too much for them. To be honest anything I write cannot do them justice, this restaurant serves beautiful food, its a little piece of Italy in SE1, find it, eat here, and come back for ever!
Some of the best Italian food I’ve ever had in the UK. And incredible service by CiroPlease make sure you order the tiramisu at the end. Chefs kiss !
Excellent meal on Friday night. We all ate the pasta with monkfish special. Absolutely delicious. For dessert we had tiramisu again excellent. Service was very attentive. Would definitely recommend.
Racially discriminatory restaurant , attended for walk in and would not recommend for any ethnic minority unfortunately. Rude dismissive receptionist, immediately turned away and told there are no tables available, Despite their being many visibly available and no alternatives given. Restaurant was occupied by only white customers. Attended another fabulous Italian restaurant and in the meantime called back o’ver and asked for a table for a same reservation to test this racial discrimination evidently visible . We were told there was a table within the hour and very keen on us booking. I let the staff member know I was unsure and would decide and they insisted on booking. I was then called back in 10 minutes front their own accord and offered a table without even asking over the phone. Note this was on the background of English accent. However, in person when seeing ethnic minorities, we were rudely ushered away previously. I highly do not recommend to any ethnic minority and this restaurant need diversity training for staff as their has been a similar previous review!
We stopped for lunch for a quieter meal than the nearby Borough Market. The fusilli was amazing and some of the best weve ever had. The calzone was huge with savory flavor and just the right amount of fillings.
One of the pasta was not salted while the other two were really average. Also, the service was extremely slow.Despite of this, Id recommend the Starters - Neapolitan Streetfood and the cocktails
Good taste, but small portion size and pretty expensive
We tried the Ortolana and Ostuni pizze and mamma mia... that dough is insane, so fluffy. Pizze are pretty price so next time I will make sure to go to the restaurant to enjoy them rather than order a delivery, as they came in a bit smashed from the ride.
Wonderful! Our last night in London on our first ever visit and we were struggling to find anything to eat after 10pm on a Sunday. We walked 1 mile from our hotel to this place and though they said they will only serve pizza at this hour we were VERY pleased with the food and the service! Everyone was very nice and thanked us for coming in. We didnt get to try anything else on the menu but we definitely recommend them for a "late night" bite or at the very least good pizza!
We went there first time and absolutely love’n it! 10/10 ! Service, food and drinks! Many options for vegetarians too! We will be back soon for sure xxx
really great food and a good vibe. the staff was super helpful explaining the dishes too.
Delicious Italian in luxurious decor with proper service. We came without booking and were seated downstairs in the basement which was beautifully decorated with candle lit settings.Food was superb, we had the daily special pasta with prawns (prawn favour fully infused the pasta), the Capricciosa pizza with mozzarella, ham, artichoke and olives (thin, chewy base grilled to perfectionsalad (freshand tiramisu (one of the best I’ve had - not heavy or too sweet).Wonderful experience, highly recommend
Interior was super clean and fresh. I suppose it just have been refurbished. Very good pizza, although it wasn’t as hot as I expected. Cappuccino was perfect. I ordered beer and my friends had Aperols. Worth visiting. Nice elegant place. Customer service was very professional.
A very nice small italian restaurant . The staff were friendly, attentive and eager to please. We ate and chatted for a long while . We were not disturbed or hurried by the staff. The food was excellent . Well prepared and very tasty. I look forwaed to going back there again .
Do not go, super overpriced. I think this was the most expensive basic Italian food I have ever had. Nothing special to it, does not taste extraordinarily good or any better than any other pizza and pasta you can get for half the price. The size of the pasta was a joke for £28!!! The staff was friendly though!
Food was delicious. Service was really friendly, welcoming and knowledgeable. No many celiac options but it was still good.
I dont even know where to begin with this absolute GEM of a place... a friend took me here randomly as we were passing by the area and he said, this is the best pizza place hed been to.. I can certify that he was correct!! If the warm and welcoming staff, who were so sincere in their approach with you, arent enough, then just let these fresh, incredibly flavoursome pizzas blow your socks off! I cant wait to go back... and I live in Wolverhampton!!! Thank you so much to everyone who served us 💯❤️
Great service and beautifully presented decor. As a coeliac there were very few options for me, even the basic of Italian restaurants offer at least a gluten-free pasta or risotto which I could have so I just had the soup of the day and a side salad. To be honest my experience was disappointing. As tasty as the soup was, to charge £9 for a few tablespoons of soup and mushrooms is appalling, I was shocked it was more plate than soup and i would have liked a decent bowl of it compared to the reasonable pizza prices which are far more substantial. The biggest laugh was £6 for a ‘mixed salad’ which consisted of a bowl of lettuce and rocket… it was basic and awful. There is a real disconnect with the pricing which needs to be addressed. I’m sure people come here for the pizza and the reviews reflect that, including my friend who really enjoyed hers, but based on my experiences, I personally wouldn’t come back here.
Hidden gem of an Italian restaurant. I regret walking past it on numerous occasions and never giving it a second look. It is now one of my favourite Italian restaurants in London
Exceptional pizzas. The ambience was great.Food came out within 5 minutes. Cannot rate the food highly enough. Will very happily come back again for sure. Thank you to the staff for making my birthday meal a very satisfying one!
Service was excellent, food was presented very well and tasted nice but not the best. Largely reasonably priced. Did not regret the visit but probably wouldnt go out of my way to go again.
FAVOLOSO !Definitely a great experience at ‘O Ver this weekend, the food is fantastic with a ‘good’ price considering the quality of the product.A little genuine restaurant in the heart of London. We had a fabulous night, I recommend for any couple or special occasion !Looking forward to come back at ‘O Ver.
Every week my half Neapolitan/half Tuscan partner and I think weve discovered The Best Pizza in London, and now I think we actually have. Absolutely fantastic pizza that left us still thinking/drooling about it days later. We had a green and a white pizza, so definitely need to come back for a red pizza as well.Excellent negronis too! We went on a busy night and we think the pizzaioli forgot about our mains after wed finished our starters, so we got a couple of extra negronis on the house for having to wait a bit extra. We didnt mind at all because the ambiance of the place was lovely.I need to go back to my reviews of other pizza places in London and knock off a star now. Unrivalled.
Amazing! You have to try the spiced negroni! 👌🏾 Youll not be disappointed by anything on the menu. Always love going to this place worth every penny.
The staff at ‘O Ver were so friendly and accommodating to our family today; including our toddler and dog! Perhaps we were not their usual clientele. However they made us feel completely at ease and I was able to order my toddler a pasta dish “off menu”.....simple yet amazing. All the food was delicious and I hope my husbands photos do them justice! Thank you ‘O Ver xx
Delicious meal - loved the truffle burrata and tuna tartare for appetizers (arancini and octopus carpaccio can be skipped), the spaghetti puttanesca and the seafood for mains and the tiramisu for dessert. They have a nice outdoor set up and good service (although we had to wait 30 mins despite making a reservation). Will def be back!
We managed to squeeze in a dinner at this place before lockdown. The staff are very friendly and helpful. Our waitress, Katie, made the best recommendations and suggestions, very grateful to have had her! We had a red wine called Montepulciano D’Abruzzo that was amazing. The food is a bit on the expensive side and the portions aren’t big but it was very tasty and flavorful. My favourite was probably the fillet (it was like cutting butterand the pomodori pasta, which is not one of their popular dishes, so I imagine the other pasta dishes are great too! The restaurant is very stylish. We sat downstairs which almost felt like a private dinner. Definitely recommend this place for a nice Italian dinner!
One of the best Italians in London order anything from their menu with confidence. Authentic high quality Italian food in a great setting with excellent service. I work in food and wine, and this is where I go regularly. I can’t recommend o’ver highly enough.
‘O ver means Truth in Neapolitan dialect and the truth is, this restaurant serves delicious authentic Neapolitan street food. They use the best ingredients from Italian producers and sea water pizzas so book yourself a table pronto! I went with a friend recently and enjoyed pasta dishes, street food starter and dessert, all tasted fabulous!
Funnily enough for a place famous for its saltwater pizza we didn’t have that. We went pasta and street food instead. No reason just it caught our fancy more.I was a fan of the burrata and the pasta mains, the Naples street food was a bit of a disappointment. The pasta though nothing to fault there, cooked well, loaded up with sauce and flavour We had to power through it. As deceptively big.The street food issue I had, was I had expectations of something else and it was difficult to square with reality. Also felt a little pricey for the platter. Will revisit, good wine as well. I see they are opening up in ST James so will probably go there next time as closer to work.
