Great location and clean and new bedding, staff really friendly and helpful. The rooms and bathrooms need urgent renovation. No glasses in the rooms, the doors are in awful condition, making strange noises.

The only good thing about this hotel is it’s location! Literally nothing else. Old, not renovated rooms with an unpleasant smell. Holes in the sheets. The bathroom was disgusting- not renovated since the communism. With partially not working utilities… not worth the money

Totally rubbish place, the wall is damp, the toilet is broken, the employees are extremely rude and wake me up at 12:30 in the middle of the night.

Original Soviet era hotel. Old furniture, vanities and all amenities. Mini fridge with lock. It may be OK to stay for day or two on business trip. Central location and spectacular view of Vitosha Mountain from top floors are only positives at this hotel.

Beds were comfy, thats about it...Ceiling in bathrom fell of,Flat screen tv? My 13 inch laptop has a biger display, cables coming out of walls everywhere.Fridge and table are probably from the soviet era.60 euros per night not well spent.Falls advertising, dont stay here

Renovated Lobby, friendly hotel personnel, low price, located in the absolute center of the city. But...Unsafe elevators with malfunctions, dirty as well as post-war like rooms and fridge, dirty carpets, showers and toilets.This was by far the most horrible hotel I ever stayed in. Stay away from this hotel!!Thumps up only for the really nice reception staff.

The rooms are outdated and need some renovation. The mattress are new. The showers do not work properly. And the worse part for my stay was the fact that twice I could not open the door because the card opener did not work. It only worked by magic. The only good thing about this hotel was the location!!

The hotel is a time capsule from the Soviet era. It is really a blast from the past and such a fun experience. The mattresses and bedding are of excellent quality. However, they are hard. Be prepared if you dont like an extra firm mattress ( mo springs that i could find felt like memory foamAlso the rooms look to be original to the Soviet area building so they are old and need renovation. However, they are overall clean and serviceable. Also the staff are AMAZING! Really wonderful people. The hotel is so centrally located. Perfect for walking the center and old town if Sofia. If you dont mind something that isnt fancy and are looking for a bargain and also dont mind a hard mattress, and would like to glimpse one period of Bulgarias history i would definitely recommend! We really loved the location and breakfast buffet. if you have any problems in your room, the staff are quick to fix it. On a budget, i would stay here again.

Bit dated but all clean ,great air con 40" outside 18"inside. What more can you ask for

The hotel is nice, the rooms are a bit outdated but it was perfect for what we needed (just one night close to the airport-12 min). The family suite is very spacious and comprised of a seperate bedroom and had 3 balconies w/great views! The location is absolutely excellent for Sofia and theres a burger place across the park on the back side of the hotel that is absolutely amazing!! The staff were super friendly and helpful. The lady with glasses and short brown hair at the front desk was SO sweet, friendly, and helpful. We would absolutely stay here again, highly recommend, excellent price point- you cant beat the price!

It feels like a communist era building with its wooden features.Spacious tho and nice

Very simple but clean!!! room. Comfortable bed. A little bit noisy during the night but you cant do nothing about it. Central city location helps you explore Sofia.

simple hotel that gets the job done. location is the best part of staying here, central to everything and nice scene in the surrounding bars and restaurants. rooms are basic and if you stay on the higher floors, they get a lot of natural light and great views all day round

My days, I have no idea from where to start! This place looks like you go back in time. It gives a taste of history to see Soviet Bulgaria back in the 70s.I am not joking when I say this hotel hasnt seen a renovation since its launching, only God knows when!On the other hand, location wise is absolutely the best. This is in the heart of the capital. And certainly the prices are unbeatable.

A fine place to come back to drunk at the end of the night. Not a place for business.Feels like the kind of place that peaked a while back and needs some love. Carpet was filthy, beds uncomfortable, bathroom generally needs maintenance.

Soviet interior with rock-hard beds. Rooms are terrible. But the location is great, the very city center, and it is cheap. Didnt interact with staff much, check-in lady was fast and friendly.

If you want to go back in Communism this is the right place. Very polite and good staff. The style of my room its the same before 25 years ago, but its very clear and hot with the best views on the Sofia. Thank you very much 🌞😊🤗

Great pleasure if you wished to re-experience the 80ties during the communistic era...That is it!!!Also everything is very cripy when you use the stairs to go to the reception.The bar is closed because of Covid.If I put photos my post might get deleted...I was given a hairdryer on request and in the busiest time from the reception found me taxi and helped me with the suitcases!!!Friendly stuff!Extremely Central Location!

Good value for your money. Super centric location. The rooms and bathrooms can use an update so dont expect anything fancy. Ask for a room on the higher floors to see the city skyline

This hotel is good by location and its price. However you should expect here to see the old hotel. Its been partially renovated, but you may still find some very old furniture, defects in walls, which were drilled many times (during small repairs, I guess). I believe it was really nice at its best times, however now ot deserves its 3-stars rating. I have experienced problem with hot water in bathroom - it was barely warm during almost 20 minutes, till it became hot, as it was expected. Also, there many dirty spots on pillows and textile around the room. Anyway, I may say there are splendid city view from your room and this keeps me from lower rate for the hotel. I cant say I liked staying here or I was satisfied, but this hotel still looks ok for its price, I think. Dont expect much and you wont be disappointed. I really believe, that big renovation may bring brightness and shinyness to the hotel again, so Im looking forward to get back and see it one day.

I stayed 3 nights at the hotel and they didnt change the towels even once. Not to mention that the room floor so dirty that it felt gross to walk barefoot. 😡

Terrible check in and check out process. It takes too much time to check in, and on the check out when you are asked if you had anything from the mini bar you have to wait to send someone to go and check whether you lied. The renovation is superficial. The tiles in the bathroom are at least 50years old and the audio is a as transparent as light. You listen to everything. Only location has a real value.

Hotel is as advertised, its a bit older but still a good place to stay price/quality. Straight in the neighborhood of loads of bars, restaurants and the general center of Sofia. Definitely a good enough place for a short stay in Sofia at low cost. Asked for a taxi for very early pick up and all was in order. Friendly staff.

Not often does that happen that the review is bad. Unfortunately I would not recommend the stay here. The hotel is ranked 3stars but 3 stars weigh differently across the continent.Long story short- design of rooms very poor, dirty carpets, when the tap opened- first run brownish water, needed to wait 2-3mins to wash my hands. One small set of toiletries, the other one- half empty probably left after previous guests. Breakfast- very basic, limited choice of fruit, some cereal, eggs and meat, cheese.Minibar- no mini bar.It was cheap but still i find it quite an adventure. I will not post pics this time.

I would love to vote a -5 stars for this hotel, but I cant, so Im voting 1 star. The building is very old from the 70s. Not maintained at all. Not worth the money. Has no parking, old nasty elevators, dirty old carpets, shewing gum stains in the bathroom, rotten doors almost falling apart, broken sink, corroded railings and many more issues. See the photos. If you can tolerate everything on the pictures, thats the place for you.

The hotel room had dusty old furniture and wasn’t even cleaned before we gotin! There were no shampoo or shower gel bottles, no toilet paper, and there was hair on the bedsheets and pillows, mold in the shower cabin, and cobwebs and dust everywhere! The towels weren’t clean! This is the first hotel I’ve seen without water glasses left in the room! The staff was not helpful or nice! DO NOT STAY THERE, the only good thing about hotel Rila is the location!

Ideal location in the heart of Sofia.Breathtaking view from floors 6 and above.Do not expect brand new furniture as it is a definitely refurbished soviet hotel.But the first 2 factors overlap the latter for me a lot.Bonus: helpful and cooperative staff.

I loved the location! Rila Hotel is directly at the city centre. It is just a few minute walk away from metro station serdica which connects to pretty much everything in Sofia. Behind the hotel you can get to Vitosha boulevard after walking for a few minutes. There you can enjoy every kind of cusine including traditional Bulgarian food. The prices of hotel rooms were economical. We had a smart TV with access to free wifi, air conditioning and clean linens. The lady at the reception was very nice and helpful. Reception was available 24/7. The window opened to a spectacular view of Sofia and Vitosha.Some of the staff didnt speak English which created difficulty in communication. Particularly when just before my conference dinner we wanted to borrow pressing iron for my business suit but it wasnt available and the receptionist couldnt understand English. My husband had to go multiple times throughout the day to borrow iron but returned empty handed each time. The rooms are a bit old fashioned but it was clean so everything is fine. No microwave or coffee maker was given to us and receptionist said that it was due to precautions against covid 19. The wood of the door was a little torn so the room lock was exposed which made us worry but the receptionist said the lock will hold.

very well located... that is the only good point. for the rest, as it was already mention by others :- pictures do not reflect the reality- rooms are old dated (which would have not been a problem if I knew it before booking... but when you compare the pictures and the reality, you feel like youve been mislead- all floors are dated, when only the reception and the lobby are renewed- hard to get hot water- AND the room was not cleaned during our stay (2 nights!!!

Location of the hotel is awesome. Its actually right next to a club. Like literally. The hotel room looks modern, bed is comfortable and there is air conditioning. But, the bathroom? It looks very old, small and bit dirty. Other then that its a nice choice to stay for a few nights.

A nice little hotel in the heart of Sofia. Excellent location, a ten minute walk from the main metro stop directly from the airport.Reception is very modern and bright, however the rooms were dated and in need of an upgrade, however for a cheap hotel with such a great location is does the job perfectly. The beds were comfortable and the room was warm, the staff were moderately friendly but very busy.We didnt have breakfast so no comment on the food but overall if youre not spending much time in the room and want great value for money in an ideal location this is a perfect hotel.

This hotel become a big disappointed when in between unloading our suitcases we got a serious ticket and weak locked. Hotel staff that staid out side didn’t do nothing.The room was not ready on time.Location good. Clean inside room good. In the public space terrible smell of cigarettes.

The bedroom was a nice size, clean and tidy. My toilet / shower room was very disappointing. Hardly any room and very dated (see pic). Took ages for hot water to come through. There was an abundance of choice for breakfast. Staff were friendly.

Terrible hotel! please do not make the mistake of staying there. the reception is renovated, but the rest ..... is disgusting. If you want to convince yourself, ask to see the rooms before the payment. they are all old and alas their mother. The bored staff. They lied to us about parking. They do not have parking! One of the hotels employees is a friend with the car maker and calls him in second second when you park at the hotel. We have bought parking tickets for 10 hours. After no more than 3 hours, our car was picked up with all valid parking tickets. Trusted and defiant staff. I hope that the owner of this hotel will also take a look at the reviews (this is not the same as the staff he hasWe came from Bansko from the ski and we wanted to visit Sofia. Im sorry there are such people. is in the club on the ground floor. musically sounds until morning. You can not sleep like that.

The hotel is perfectly located in the Sofia center, in a nice area. Staff is friendly and helpful. My room at 8th floor had a very nice view over the city and seemed in a process of unfinished renovation. The carpet, the towels and bed sheets were clean and new, but the furniture and the bathroom were old. The room was clean, though, even if a bit smelly. I think its a good choice of you are not very demanding.

Very cheap hotel and the reception looks amazing, but the rooms werent as good. The mattresses were nice and firm but the furniture was old and squeaky. The doors had to be slammed to close them properly. The bathroom didnt have a proper shower, just an alcove in the wall with a shower head on the wall and it looked dirty because all the rules were old and crumbling. Staff cleaned every day though.

The location is perfect, just one minute away from the main shopping and restaurant/bar street. Add one more minute and you are at the metro station. How one would judge this hotel depends mainly on ones expectation. The building itself isnt in the best shape anymore, although you can see its former glory. The hallways might seem a bit spooky at first, but the rooms are clean and in good condition. They even have modern TVs. I award 5 stars, because of the very friendly staff.

The hotel is in s great place of the city, no doubt! The lobby and entrance look clean and welcoming, they must have renovated and freshened it up. The rooms however, can use a bit of touch. The furniture and overall feel is as if ypu were somewhere between 15-20 years ago, then they would have been top notch. Despite that, everything was clean and the staff was very polite and helpful.I would recommend the place!

Great value for money! Booked this place as a last minute change of plans to stay in Sofia for one night. Reception stored our bags until check in time, which is always helpful. The reception and lounge are nicely renovated and the location could not be better. We booked a 3 bed room and it was huge! nice large windows too. large flat screen tv, a sofa and the most decently priced mini bar I have ever seen. Bathroom wad large and to our surprise has a bath tub but needs a small renovation. Thank you for a great stay! Breakfast was pretty good too for the price.

The entrance of the hotel and the lobby are renovated and look nice and fancy. The rooms are outdated and definitely need renovation. Despite that the room was warm and clean. The hotel has great location in the city center but there are a lot of things to be done in the hotel to become favorite place to stay.

Hotel looks fancy at the front as they refurbished. Maybe they will be refurbishing rooms next. Not to sure why the plans are. The rooms, hallways, lift are very outdated. Seems all areas of the hotel have never been touched since it was first built, accept bath tubs, sinks and toilets. Everything else is old.We stayed in a decent size room with sofa’s, fridge, desk, wardrobe and widescreen TV which as music channels and more. We had two balconies in our room.Beds were comfortable due to a layer of foam on top of a mattress to ensure you are comfortable.Prices for refreshments in the fridge are actually reasonable, with chocolates, nuts, crisp, small whiskeys, red & white wine.He best thing about the hotel is it was in the centre of good night life, shopping centre and main road, and agriculture.
