"Marubi" National Museum of Photography - Muzeu Kombëtar i Fotografisë "Marubi" - Art museum in Puke, Albania
This is a well-curated museum with excellent signage in English for non-Albanian visitors. Upstairs you can learn about the Marubi "family" and their remarkable and valuable contribution to Albanias heritage.Entrance was 700 lekë when I visited on a rainy October day (11/10/2022).
It is a nice photo gallery, but it needs more work. The photos are good, but they give a very poor context about the problem or the situation they want to relate. A better job can be done with the gallery, it can be more interesting. The normal ticket is priced at €7, however, for students it can be €2.
The 1-st time that I visited this museum and I like too much.
Nice museum to spend an hour or two while in Shkoder. Learnt a bit about the history of Albania.
Beautifully designed with astonishing exhibits.
Some photos in the museum, were familiar for me from the school books, without knowing authorship of Marubi.Very worthy it to visit and spend your time there.
We loved the exhibition of Jutta Benzenberg. I feel we learned a lot about Albania through her photographies. Gallery is very modern and stylish, like we were in Berlin..
The best museum in Albania 🇦🇱
A small but beautiful museum! From its permanent exhibition one can learn quite a lot about the Albanian history (given that one have some basic knowledge about it before).
A great little photography gallery. Some amazing photographs and history is depicted about Albania in a unique manner. They have WiFi, audible information, and an information leaflet (available in english too!We went during a weekday in the afternoon and it was very quiet and empty. They have a little movie room too showing photos and overall it was a wonderful experience! Its also on a main Street in Shkodër with many cafes and restaurants to eat at before or after the museum!
Cool museum with a lot of historical things and stuff so whoever wants to go to a museum definitely come to this one
Very interesting Museum with historic cameras, and pictures of historic development of Albania over the last 150 years until recent.Worth a visit, and you have the benefit of a cool spot to escape the hot afternoon hours.Entrance fee is good Support for local culture.
Very interesting and impressing photoes
Amazing place! Must visit.
Interesting museum. We enjoyed learning about the Marubi legacy and Albanian history. Lovely garden as well.
Overall this was the greatest experience I have had in Albania this many years. Right when you walk in, there was this girl that was always seen with a smile on her face, greeting you in the nicest way possible. She informed us about the prices, gave us the right pamphlets and also suggested that we start our tour from the second floor and finish with the dark room. The ambiance was great, and modern motives were so nicely embedded with the photographies that have resisted time.Every photography or item placed in the museum had its own explanations, written both in Albanian and English.I think if we should consider raising the standards of Albanian Culture and the way we present it, we should start by taking example from Marubi Exposè, National Photography Museum.
The best museum we did in Albania, this one is chronological and it is much better of some chaotic museum we tested in Tirana. Very good photo, good information and museography.
An amazing story that spans generations of photographers and photography.A unique history that amazes everyone!A must see!
A unique museum. Highly recommended for all the tourists who can get to know with the Albanian history and culture through the amazing pics of this museum. Maybe a bit expensive for the locals, but still worth it for anyone!
It is a must,If you visit Shkoder!
Very interesting and good photography museum.
Amazing. A must if you want to know the birth of Albanian photography history
interesting pics and background if you are interested in history and photography. Small museum.
Very interesting and informative museum that takes you through the origins of photography in Albania.
It is a very nice museum with a great photo exhibition. I liked it that everything was also translated to English.
To me it was an amazing experience. The museum was very interesting and the building itself was worth visiting. The ticket price was more than reasonable. I would like to thank the receptionist who was very friendly and explained us a lot about the museum. Faleminderit per mikpritjen!
Absolutely an “must go” place! It is the only one of its kind in entire Republic of Albania and what you will find there will definitely astonish you! The story itself and how things are related and connected with Pietro Marubi and the people around him is amazing! Go there and see it by yourself!!!
Very interesting place. The ticket price? Much ado for nothing. It needs ta lot of work to keep that place open. Those who come from other places, or who like museums, know that they are not free.
Museum is "free" on the last Sunday of the month only if youre Albanian. In other words, they discriminate against foreign visitors who spend money in their city! Then when I was just checking out what they had on display in the lobby to determine if I wanted to pay the 700 leke admission (high by local standard), the guy behind the reception rudely said to me "What are you doing? You must pay!" I wont give my money to such an a-hole!
Surprise, excellent effort, very important for people who interested for history generally, photography especially,a place must see in Albania
One of the most interesting museums in Albania. Totally worth a visit. And also: Every last sunday of the month you get in for free ;)
Interesting museum that shows historical photos taken in Albania at the benining of the 20th century. You can spend a nice hour in there, though I think the ticket (700 lekis a bit pricey for the standards of Albania.
It’s a little pricey considering the museum size. However it’s worth going. Some great photos are shown and you’ll learn a bit of Albanian history.
Worth a visit! Skadar History through photography. This modern venue displays the most valued pictures through it two floors. The presentation is in two languages: Albanian and English. Entrance is 6€, which i find it expensive compared to similar presentations across Europe.
Interesting photos and cool.modern building. Its a bit expensive for Albania (700 L), and avoid, if at all possible, loud Italian tour groups! There is no soundproofing/noise reduction. It would have been much nicer if it was quiet.
A bit pricey but an excellent way to see the history of Albania through photography
Beautiful building and exhibit. Nice library to relax and peruse many books about photography. A perfect respite on a rainy day (or any day!)
Even if youre not into photography, well worth a visit especially on a rainy day. So much to take in. Well worth the 700 Lek
Great history of photography in Albania. Very well peesented.
Very lovely and well thought out museum! I recommend this for anyone who is visiting Shkodër for the first time and would like to learn more about the photography and history of Albania. The receptionist was also very friendly and kind.
You have to visit this museum. Its small, but thanks these photos you can enter in the big albanian history. The photos are beautyfull. You can also understand how you can make a traditional photografy.
You suddenly have a deep understanding of the foundations, influences and beautiful complexity of Albania.Recommend you see this of you can. The man who was working is sweet a helpful as he can though English is not strong point.Loved it.
I visited the old Marubi museum before but this one now is a classy one, and really interesting. Right in the city center is a must specially for the hikers who visited the mountains of the North, there are old photos from the mountain areas and traditional clothes to see. You can also see here the original cameras that were used. History of Albanian photography.
A well presented and well maintained display with much to offer. Was fortunate to find some family photographs too in the archives. Many thanks!
It’s only worth it if you get a student ticket because it’s so cheap but otherwise it’s pretty small with not much selection. I did still enjoy though
Trying to charge 700 leks. Im student and its written 200 leks for students. The man didnt answer when I asked him why and looked away like I was not welcome here. Sad because the museum seems to be really nice. Think about changing this guy for the future of the museum.
Marubi National Museum is always one of places that we visit with our guests. Absolutely must in Shkoder.
A good designed, but for its price -- 700 leks -- too small. There are only 4 halls in two levels, including sometimes odd photographs with sophisticated explanations.
small and stunning, the best in Albanian.
Fantastic images well presented in a modern museum. Not cheap but worth the money. Dont miss the videos about the photographic dynasty that made this pace possible.
